2022 NFL playoff picture: Which teams are in, who’s still in the hunt

The NFL playoff picture is officially coming into focus.

Which teams have clinched, which teams are in the hunt, and who’s out? We’ve done the math for you!

Here are all the clinching and elimination scenarios headed into the final week of the season:

AFC Playoff Picture

TEAMS CURRENTLY IN:

No. 1 seed: Kansas City Chiefs (13-3, AFC West champs)

The Chiefs clinched the AFC West title by beating the Texans in Week 15.

Remaining schedule: at Raiders

No. 2: Buffalo Bills (12-3, AFC East champs)

The Bills clinched the AFC East title by beating the Bears in Week 16. They also own the tiebreaker over Kansas City for the No. 1 seed because of a head-to-head victory over K.C. on Oct. 16. 

Remaining schedule: vs. Patriots

No. 3: Cincinnati Bengals (11-4, AFC North champs)

The Bengals clinched a playoff berth with the Jets’ Week 16 loss. With the NFL electing to cancel Week 17’s Bills-Bengals game, the Bengals clinched the AFC North title and a top-four seed heading into the playoffs, although Cincinnati can no longer earn a first-round bye.

Remaining schedule: vs. Ravens

No. 4: Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8, first in AFC South)

The winner of the Titans-Jaguars matchup in Week 18 will win the AFC South. Jacksonville can still make the playoffs in the third wild-card spot with a loss to the Titans if the Patriots, Dolphins and Steelers also lose.

Remaining schedule: vs. Titans

No. 5 (second wild card): Los Angeles Chargers (10-6, second in AFC West)

The Chargers clinched a playoff spot with their Week 16 win over Indianapolis.

Remaining schedule: at Broncos

No. 6 (first wild card): Baltimore Ravens (10-6, second in AFC North)

The Ravens clinched a playoff spot with their Week 16 win over Atlanta.

Remaining schedule: at Bengals

No. 7: New England Patriots (8-8, second in AFC East)

The Patriots can clinch the AFC’s third wild-card spot in Week 18 with a win.

Remaining schedule: at Bills

ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN:

No. 8 (third wild card): Miami Dolphins (8-8, third in AFC East)

The Dolphins can clinch the AFC’s third wild-card spot in Week 18 with a win and a Patriots loss.

Remaining schedule: vs. Jets

No. 9: Pittsburgh Steelers (8-8, third in AFC North)

The Steelers can clinch the AFC’s third wild-card spot in Week 18 with a win and losses by the Patriots and Dolphins.

Remaining schedule: vs. Browns

No. 10: Tennessee Titans (7-9, second in AFC South)

The winner of the Titans-Jaguars matchup in Week 18 will win the AFC South.

Remaining schedule: at Jaguars 

ELIMINATED: Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders

NFC Playoff Picture

WHO’S CURRENTLY IN:

No. 1 seed: Philadelphia Eagles (13-3, first in NFC East)

The Eagles clinched a playoff spot by beating the Giants in Week 14. They can clinch the NFC’s No. 1 seed (and a first-round bye plus home-field advantage) in Week 18 with a win or losses by the 49ers and Cowboys. They can clinch the NFC East title with a win or Cowboys loss.

Remaining schedule: vs. Giants

No. 2: San Francisco 49ers (12-4, NFC West champs)

The 49ers clinched the NFC West title by beating the Seahawks in Week 15. They can clinch the No. 1 seed (and a first-round bye plus home-field advantage) with a win in Week 18 and an Eagles loss.

Remaining schedule: vs. Cardinals

No. 3: Minnesota Vikings (12-4, NFC North champs)

The Vikings clinched the NFC North title by beating the Colts in Week 15. They cannot finish any higher than the No. 2 seed.

Remaining schedule: at Bears

No. 4: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-8, NFC South champs)

The Buccaneers clinched the NFC South title by beating the Panthers in Week 17. They are locked in to the NFC’s No. 4 seed and will face the NFC East runners-up in the wild-card round.

Remaining schedule: at Falcons 

No. 5 (first wild card): Dallas Cowboys (12-4, second in NFC East)

The Cowboys clinched a playoff spot in Week 15. They can clinch the NFC East title in Week 18 with a win and an Eagles loss. They can clinch the NFC’s No. 1 one seed (and a first-round bye plus home-field advantage) with a win and losses by both the Eagles and the 49ers.

Remaining schedule: at Commanders

No. 6 (second wild card): New York Giants (9-6-1, third in NFC East)

The Giants clinched a playoff spot with their Week 17 win over the Colts. They are locked into the NFC’s No. 6 seed.

Remaining schedule: at Eagles

No. 7 (third wild card): Seattle Seahawks (8-8, second in NFC West)

The Seahawks can clinch the NFC’s third wild-card spot in Week 18 with a win and a Packers loss.

Remaining schedule: vs. Rams

ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN:

No. 8 Detroit Lions (8-8, second in NFC North)

The Lions can clinch the NFC’s third wild-card spot in Week 18 with a win and a Seahawks loss.

Remaining schedule: at Packers

No. 9: Green Bay Packers (8-8, third in NFC North)

The Packers can clinch the NFC’s third wild-card spot in Week 18 with a win.
