As the Halloween season kicks off, James Wan has shared a new The Conjuring 2 behind-the-scenes video showing off Patrick Wilson’s musical skills. Wilson and Wan have enjoyed a successful 12 years of working with one another on film, beginning with the original Insidious movie and continuing through its first sequel and through Wan’s expansion into the DC Extended Universe with Aquaman. One of their biggest partnerships remains that of The Conjuring Universe, in which Wilson stars as Ed Warren, husband to clairvoyant Lorraine, with whom he investigated a number of supernatural events around the world.
Despite its title, The Conjuring 2 marked the third installment in the interconnected horror franchise after the 2014 spinoff Annabelle, which was a box office smash in spite of its poor reviews. The 2016 sequel, which adapted the events of the Warrens’ Enfield poltergeist case in London, would earn just slightly more than its predecessor and score similar critical acclaim for Wan’s stylish direction, effective scares and emotional storytelling. While the franchise has received a range of reception, those that have fared better have been partially to their emotional character moments, and audiences are now seeing how one came together.
Just over six years after it first hit theaters, James Wan took to Instagram to share another throwback The Conjuring 2 BTS video. The latest video from the filmmaker shows off star Patrick Wilson’s music skills as he performs both the guitar and sings the iconic Elvis track, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” for the horror sequel in a studio. What To Expect Next From The Conjuring Universe
Though only a brief moment in the film, The Conjuring 2‘s Elvis performance proved a charming one for audiences, making the BTS video an even more intriguing look at how Wilson expertly played the classic track. While better known for his work in the horror genre, the 2016 sequel didn’t mark the actor’s first incorporation of his music skills for his career, having begun his work on stage with The Full Monty and Oklahoma! and carrying it over to his second major film role with The Phantom of the Opera. With The Conjuring Universe expected to continue in a variety of directions, it will be interesting to see whether Wilson gets to show off his musical talents once again in the horror franchise.
That being said, audiences have been eagerly awaiting word on what the future will hold for Wilson in The Conjuring Universe, with The Nun 2 currently the focus for the next chapter in the franchise, having recently cast The Invisible Man‘s Storm Reid as the lead. Despite being released in the midst of the pandemic and receiving mixed reviews, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It still scored well with audiences and was a box office hit, with director Michael Chaves confirming Wan to have plans for future Warren-focused installments. In the meantime, audiences can celebrate the Halloween season with The Conjuring 2 and the rest of The Conjuring Universe, save for The Nun, streaming on HBO Max now.
