Promotional art for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reveals that Cassie Lang will not be a true superhero yet. One of the most prominent character growths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the relationship between Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton). Scott’s history as a criminal does not deter Cassie from ever idolizing him and this in turn empowers him to do better for her, leading to him becoming the superhero Ant-Man. As the MCU progresses, audiences have seen Cassie grow up, represented by appropriate recastings, until she too follows in her comic counterpart’s footsteps by becoming a superhero herself.
Despite Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania getting to show Cassie donning a sleek purple outfit that matches Scott and Hope Van Dyne’s (Evangeline Lilly) red and yellow suits, respectively, promotional artwork for the upcoming film reveals one glaring absence. Twitter page Ant-Man News showcased the Quantumania artwork being used for posters and t-shirts. While Scott and Hope’s code names for Ant-Man and the Wasp are present, Cassie only has her name rather than either of her established code names from the comics. This seems rather unusual, unless Cassie’s superhero name is being held for spoilers, but it could be that the movie simply does not give her one yet. Check out the post below:
Why Cassie Doesn’t Get Her Superhero Name Yet
Cassie first appeared in Marvel Premiere No. 47 for what was essentially Scott’s origin as Ant-Man. It would take almost 25 years for Cassie to be inducted as a superhero. Following the death of Scott, Cassie obtained the Pym Particles and joined the Young Avengers, taking on the code name Stature. Scott would soon return from the dead, but Cassie would be killed, only for her to return, as per frequent comic book tropes. Tired of her father constantly watching over her, she decides to resume being a superhero, but takes the name Stinger, basing her costume and powers off of the Wasp. Since then, Cassie has continued to fight alongside her father against the numerous rogues of the Marvel Universe.
The MCU is clearly going down a different path for establishing Cassie as a superhero, but despite giving her a suit and powers in the latest film, it looks like it might take a while before she gets a familiar code name. The reason for this is simple, while Cassie’s origin is going to play out in Ant-Man 3, the film only depicts her first steps into assuming the role. Unlike Scott and Hope, who had past mantle bearers to look up to with Hank and Janet, Cassie is still trying to figure herself out by being independent. This would explain why her outfit visually contrasts color-wise against the other two to show that Cassie is not feeding off of Scott or Hope and is trying to make her own mark.
There are still several story details that have yet to be explained about the relationship between Scott, Hope and Cassie, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will most likely explore these in good time. While there has been no confirmation, there is already speculation that Cassie’s turn as a hero will set up the Young Avengers, at which point she will most likely have chosen a code name. Cassie has, by far, been the most developed of the Young Avengers members in film and will likely soon be finally following in her father’s footsteps. As of right now, though, what the future holds for her is still a mystery.
