The NFL has confirmed that the suspended Monday Night Football clash between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals won’t be played this week. The game was called off in the first quarter after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after getting hit in the chest while attempting to block Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.
The NFL released a statement that read:
“The NFL continues to be in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, and also the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association.”
The league also confirmed that they haven’t decided whether the game will be played on a later date:
“After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week. The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.”
Will the NFL Week 18 games go ahead?
While the future of the Bills and Bengals’ suspended game remains up in the air, the league has confirmed that Week 18 will go ahead as scheduled. The statement read:
“The league has not made any changes to the Week 18 regular season schedule. We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.”
NFL Week 18 action kicks off on Saturday with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Las Vegas Raiders, followed by an AFC South division title game decider between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans.
The Bills and Bengals are scheduled to be in action on Sunday. Buffalo will host the New England Patriots, while the Baltimore Ravens visit Cincinnati. The final game of the NFL’s 2022-23 regular season was supposed to be the NFC North divisional battle between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions. However, it will likely be the Bills and Bengals’ unfinished game.
