Director Peyton Reed confirms the identities of the Kang variants in the Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scene. After the introduction of He Who Remains in Loki, Marvel Studios officially debuts Kang the Conqueror via the latest MCU threequel. While he ended up being defeated by Team Ant-Man, the movie’s stinger teases the arrival of more variants of the character in the MCU.
Speaking with ComicBook, Reed confirms the identities of the three main Kang variants seen in the Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scene. While the filmmaker doesn’t go into specifics about what role they will play moving forward in the Multiverse Saga, his revelation is enough to give an idea of what to expect the next time Jonathan Majors’ villain re-emerges in the franchise. “We definitely wanted to recreate that and give Jonathan [Majors] a starting point to deal with, ‘Who do we bring in of the variants?’ There’s Rama Tut and there’s a character based on Scarlet Centurion and, of course, Immortus,” he said. We wanted to go full Kurasawa Ran with it and make it really operatic.”
What The New Kangs Mean For The MCU’s Multiverse Saga
For context, Rama-Tut is the persona Kang assumed when he traveled back in time to ancient Egypt and made himself a Pharoah. During this time, he also fought Moon Knight after the villain created a reality that didn’t include Khonshu. Meanwhile, Scarlet Centurion is the name Kang chose when he met his ancestor, Doctor Doom, and fought the Avengers. Finally, Immortus is an older version of Kang who has amassed a lot of knowledge over the years.
Looking at the Ant-Man 3 stinger’s Kang variants’ comic book history offers an idea of where they may pop up next. Among the three, Immortus is arguably the most interesting considering his unique background. Given his knowledge, he could be the head of the Council of Kangs. Meanwhile, Rama-Tut could end up being the primary villain of Marvel’s Fantastic Four, which is being directed by WandaVision helmer Matt Shakman.
Regardless of the specific plans that Marvel Studios have for each Kang variant, expect that Majors will be a fixture in the MCU in the next few years, playing different versions of the villain. All of that leads to the culmination of the Multiverse Saga in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. After Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania; however, it’s certainly interesting to learn more about what went down during the Council of Kangs’ assembly.
