Now that Hugh Jackman will be returning as Wolverine, the actor who leads fancasts for the MCU version of the mutant responds if he’ll join the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Wolverine role is wide open for a new actor to claim, and Kingsman franchise lead Taron Egerton responds to whether he will join the MCU or not after being heavily fancast as the character for the last few years. Hugh Jackman will return as his version of Wolverine for at least one more time, now in the MCU, with Deadpool 3. After that, Marvel Studios will be looking for a new actor to breathe life into the MCU version of the mutant, and Egerton answers if he is up for the occasion.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Speaking with Total Film magazine (via The Direct), Egerton, who is the perfect MCU Wolverine casting in the eyes of many, addressed his possible involvement as the mutant in the MCU. According to the actor, he is not very optimistic about playing Wolverine in the MCU, nor does Egerton himself appears to be excited about the possibility anymore. Egerton seems to be on a different wavelength than what would be needed to join Marvel, even saying, “I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing.” Check out the full quote below:

“I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no signs pointing towards that being the thing. And I just don’t know if I’m maybe… I don’t know. Maybe I’m getting to the point where that’s not what I want any more. I don’t know.” (…) “You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me any more. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career].”

What Actors Would Be Perfect To Play The MCU’s Wolverine Other Than Taron Egerton

Wolverine Evolution

If Egerton ends up passing on the opportunity to play the MCU Wolverine, then there are a few interesting actors who could do a good job succeeding Jackman as Wolverine. Zac Efron would be a great MCU casting for the character. The actor has also worked with Jackman in the past — like Egerton — in The Greatest Showman and showed that he can match the original Wolverine’s screen presence, which is such a big part of what made Jackman’s turn as the Marvel mutant so iconic.

Efron has long been fancast as different characters for the MCU, ranging from Adam Warlock — who will debut, played by Will Poulter, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — to the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four. Efron is also a popular fancast for Wolverine and has expressed interest in the role as of last October, making him a prime candidate to succeed Jackman after his Wolverine return in Deadpool 3. Efron is also an actor who is known for his great physicality, which is very important for the part of Wolverine.

If Egerton nor Efron end up becoming the new MCU Wolverine, then there are a few other names that have been thrown around the casting ring. Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood has been the main source of inspiration for a number of Wolverine stories. Because of that, the actor’s son, Scott Eastwood, who looks a lot like his father when he was younger, has been a recurring name to take on the role. Eastwood would bring very little baggage to the role, just like Jackman did when he was first cast. On the other hand, Keanu Reeves would be a perfect MCU Wolverine and has recently expressed interest.
