John Wick Seems To Fear Donnie Yen’s Assassin In New John Wick 4 Clip

Keanu Reeves’ titular hitman seems to have met his match with Donnie Yen’s Caine in a new clip from John Wick: Chapter 4. After three successful installments, Reeves returns for another outing as the unstoppable assassin in John Wick: Chapter 4. The new film, which is once again directed by Chad Stahelski, features a number of new characters, including Yen, a legend in martial arts cinema, who plays one of Wick’s rivals.

Ahead of the John Wick: Chapter 4 release date, Reeves made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he debuted a new clip showing his character looking apprehensive about facing off against Yen’s Caine. Check out the new clip below, which starts at 9:06:

Wick generally takes down his opponents with relative ease, but the clip above definitely shows Reeves’ assassin looking somewhat fearful. The clip seems to be only a smaller part of a much larger fight, with Wick arming himself with a sword to face off against Yen’s rival killer.

Donnie Yen Is A Great Addition To John Wick: Chapter 4

The John Wick films are renowned for the clever ways in which Reeves’ assassin fights his way through scores of enemies, dispatching them with guns, knives, and, in at least one case, a pencil. While the first two movies do feature final showdowns between Wick and a central antagonist, it isn’t until John Wick: Chapter 3Parabellum that a franchise “boss battle” starts to feel a little less like a guaranteed victory for Reeves’ character.

Mark Dacascos’ Zero was a worthy final opponent in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, but Yen’s Caine is already shaping up to be a far more deadly adversary. With Yen’s impressive action cinema background in movies like the Ip Man franchise, the actor’s proven fight background only serves to make his character seem even more formidable. Although Wick did struggle to defeat Zero, Caine will hopefully be the first character in the John Wick franchise to truly inspire fear in Reeves’ hero, making their showdown all the more intense.

While Caine is shaping up to be a difficult opponent for Wick to overcome, he’s not even the main antagonist in the film. Bill Skarsgaård’s Marquis is seemingly John Wick: Chapter 4‘s big bad, meaning Reeves’ assassin may truly find himself outmatched this time around. A hero is only as good as the villains he faces off against, and John Wick: Chapter 4 is already looking like the best entry in the franchise when it comes to the forces of antagonism stacked against Reeves’ character.
