MCU Blade Movie Rumored To Have Cut Eternals’ Kit Harrington As Black Knight

[ad_1]

Blade might have cut Kit Harrington’s Black Knight if a new rumor about the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is to be believed. Harrington, known worldwide for playing Jon Snow in HBO’s Game of Thrones, first appeared as Dane Whitman in Marvel Studios’ Eternals in 2021. One of the movie’s post-credits scenes included Whitman picking up his family’s legacy sword, the Ebony Blade, and as the character watched the black goo on the blade move, he was met by an off-camera voice — later confirmed to belong to Mahershala Ali’s Blade.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to Jeff Sneider on THE HOT MIC, Marvel Studios reworked the Blade script, and the current iteration of the Blade movie does not see Black Knight appear.

Sneider already had reported in the past about how the previous Blade script had frustrated star Ali, and ultimately contributed to the movie losing its director and seeing its release date get pushed. The update brings good news to those waiting for Marvel’s take on Blade in the MCU, with the new script allegedly having “cut out the fat,” although that might mean that Eternals‘ Black Knight tease will not be followed up in Blade. Check out the full quote below:

“Someone reached out to say that with ‘Blade,’ things have gotten a little bit better. Things have shaped up, the script is leaner and meaner and they cut out the fat, but the script I heard about was like 87 pages, like there wasn’t enough and they’d shaved it to the bone:” “What they’d cut out I heard is that ‘Blade’ was gonna tie-in with ‘Eternals’ and Kit Harrington’s Black Knight.” “Black Knight’s not really involved in the ‘Blade’ thing anymore. They may be recasting a few parts including maybe the daughter, was there like a 14-year-old girl? They may recast that.”

Marvel’s Blade Does Not Need MCU Cameos

While seeing Ali’s Blade meet Black Knight in the upcoming movie would have been cool, there is enough time for Marvel to pay off Eternals‘ post-credits scene in the MCU’s future as Blade crosses paths with other MCU characters after his debut solo movie. There have been rumors about the MCU’s future that poise Blade to be setting up his own supernatural team, the Midnight Sons, and a future movie of the team could explore Blade and Black Knight’s meeting, leaving Ali’s on-camera MCU debut to focus solely on the vampire hunter.

Blade arrives in theaters next year, and the movie comes at a great point in the timeline of the MCU. Marvel’s recent releases have been struggling to achieve the same level of praise found in the Infinity Saga, and the MCU Blade movie’s story should come as a breath of fresh air to moviegoers who have grown disillusioned with the MCU as of late. Blade should be more in line with Disney+’s Special Presentation Werewolf by Night, than a more formulaic release like the latest Ant-Man, and audiences have shown their excitement for Marvel’s foray into the supernatural with the positive reception to the Disney+ special.

While Werewolf by Night did receive great praise, the special was not for everyone, as it played like an old horror movie and was presented in black and white. Due to that, Blade is set to become the entryway to the MCU’s supernatural corner, allowing for a wider audience to navigate Marvel’s new set of horror movies/ shows that will be imbued with the MCU’s characteristic storytelling. If Blade does end up featuring a Marvel cameo, it should be Ali’s MCU Blade meeting Wesley Snipes’ vampire hunter, making full use of the Multiverse Saga.
