Now, during a recent interview with Collider promoting Murder Mystery 2, Sandler reveals some new details about his next movie with the Uncut Gems directors. The actor shares a key plot detail, saying the film is set “in the sports memorabilia world,” and imparts some information about when it might begin shooting. See what Sandler shared below:

It’s in the sports memorabilia world. And I just kind of want them to decide how they want to present it… We’re working on that, but I think this summer.

Everything We Know About Adam Sandler & The Safdies’ New Movie

Last year, Sandler confirmed he and the Uncut Gems directors had a new movie in the works, praising the sibling writing and directing duo for their unparalleled work ethic. So far, the only other substantive reveal from Sandler is the first draft of the script is insanely long at 340 pages, which is expected to be cut down considerably for the final product. The Safdies have likely finished a few shorter drafts since then, with Sandler now saying their plan is to start shooting the film this summer. If this pans out, it could realistically be released early next year.

By setting their new movie with Sandler “in the sports memorabilia world,” the Sadfies will return to a milieu similar to Uncut Gems‘ true story, which revolved around Howard betting on the 2012 NBA Eastern Conference semifinals between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. Early on, Howard even comes into possession of Kevin Garnett’s 2008 Championship ring as collateral for a rare opal. By returning to the sports memorabilia world, Sandler and the Safdies’ next movie could also feature real sports artifacts and famous athletes playing themselves.
