Chris Pratt reveals the hilarious response his son, Jack, had to him voicing Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Pratt’s casting in the upcoming animated film adaptation of Nintendo’s video game franchise has sparked quite a bit of controversy. The biggest problem fans have had with the casting is that, in the games, Mario is typically portrayed as having an Italian accent, and many felt an Italian-American actor should’ve been chosen to play him. However, his son had a more humorous take on the situation.
In an interview with ET Online, Pratt reveals what his son thought of his role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie cast, and as is often the case, he wasn’t too impressed. Jack actually has a history of preferring characters that are the opposite of whom Pratt portrays, making his response particularly funny. Also, Jack seems to be a bit of an expert in Smash Bros., adding some credibility to his opinion. Check out Pratt’s statement below:
Like he plays Smash Brothers and he’s like, ‘Dad, I own at Smash, I own everybody at Smash. And I’m Luigi. I think Luigi is a better player.’ So he’s always kind of leaning against the characters that I play!
Every Time Chris Pratt Wasn’t His Son’s Favorite Character
As mentioned above, this isn’t the first time that Jack hasn’t been impressed by a character his dad plays in a film. Most know Pratt for portraying Star-Lord in The Guardians of the Galaxy film series. Having one’s father portray a superhero in one of the biggest film franchises of all time seems like a pretty big deal; even at age 4, Jack had some understanding his dad was Star-Lord. Pratt would often ask if his favorite superhero was Star-Lord, but Jack remained adamant that Spider-Man was his favorite hero.
Additionally, a photo of Jack went viral on Halloween in 2017, when he went trick-or-treating as a superhero who clearly wasn’t Star-Lord. Jack looked adorable in a miniature Captain America costume, complete with a mask and vibranium shield. Pratt, who accompanied him, pretended to be put off by his son going trick-or-treating as Captain America instead of Star-Lord, but his son appeared to be having a great time.
Fortunately, Pratt is not alone in having kids who are unimpressed with his acting career, as many stars have discussed having similar issues. Pratt’s son’s response to his Super Mario Bros. Movie role shows the reality of parenthood, with famous parents’ worst critics sometimes being their own children.
