Disney Plus Is Shipping The Most Disturbing Star Wars Romance

[ad_1]

Disney Plus makes an unfortunate error with a tweet celebrating Luke and Leia’s Star Wars romance. As most Star Wars fans are aware, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker were initially introduced as strangers before eventually realizing they are twins. While the initial idea was to create a possible love triangle, Return of the Jedi’s shocking news of their familial relationship resolved the situation, and Leia was paired with Han Solo.

In a since-deleted tweet showcasing several “Couples we will forever ship… again and again,” Disney Plus mistakenly included a photo of Leia and Luke under a label for Han and Leia. Twitter user SoCalAuthor pointed out the issue with a screenshot of Disney Plus’ tweet.

Had the tweet actually included Han in the photo with Princess Leia as the fourth couple, Disney+’s post would have made complete sense. However, people were quick to point out the mistake, with one commenter joking, “Star Wars out here getting all Game of Thrones.”

No, George Lucas WASN’T Trying To Do A Game Of Thrones Romance

While there’s not much romance in A New Hope, the movie featured both Han and Luke expressing their interest in the princess. Luke and Leia shared an intense kiss in The Empire Strikes Back, though it was long before discovering the truth of their relationship. The kiss was only meant to prove a point to Han, but in the end, the smuggler won the princess’ heart, and Luke turned his attention toward mastering the Force.

The teased romance between twins Luke and Leia has become a joke to the point where even casual Star Wars fans are aware of it, as proven by the response to Disney Plus’ tweet. However, the romantic side of Luke and Leia’s relationship never progressed to the point of another memorable pair of pop culture twins, Cersei and Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones. While Luke and Leia merely shared a few relatively PG moments together prior to knowing they were related, Cersei and Jaime went as far as having children together.

It’s also worth remembering that George Lucas didn’t plan on Leia being Luke’s sister at the beginning of the original trilogy, with the decision only being made later on. This makes their romantic connection earlier in the series a bit easier to take. Still, after all the confusion behind Star Wars‘ most infamous love triangle, it’s no wonder Disney+’s tweet gained the traction it did. Of all the characters to mix up in a post about romantic couples, interchanging Han for Luke is just about the worst-case scenario.
