A new rumor suggests that MCU Peter Parker actor Tom Holland is slated to appear in the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse this year.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse might include Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, if a new rumor is to be believed. Following the Academy Award-winning 2018 animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — which introduced Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales to audiences — a new rumor has just surfaced linking the animated sequel to Holland’s Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Jeff Sneider on THE HOT MIC, Holland’s Peter Parker will not only appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but he was also one of the reasons for the movie’s delay from last October to this June.
Sneider goes on to reveal he heard that Miles would go to “a live-action dimension with Tom Holland.” After Holland did not return in Marvel’s What If… ? as an animated Spider-Man, the thought of him appearing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — but in live-action — is intriguing. I heard that part of the delay – because Across the Spider-Verse was delayed – was about getting Tom Holland in that movie, and that one of the dimensions that Miles could end up going to (…) is a live-action dimension with Tom Holland
How Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Can Appear In Across The Spider-Verse
Holland’s Spider-Man appearing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse makes even more sense after the actor’s latest movie as the wall-crawler, 2021’s generational event Spider-Man: No Way Home. In that movie, Holland’s MCU Peter Parker was joined by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Spider-Man from the character’s live-action history. With Holland’s Spider-Man now having knowledge of how the multiverse works and given that the MCU is in the middle of its Multiverse Saga, then a Holland MCU Spider-Man crossover with Miles Morales from the animated Spider-Verse franchise could very well be in the cards.
Around the end of last year, rumors first began emerging of Holland having a role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The rumblings made their way to Spider-Verse franchise producer Christopher Miller, who answered, “let’s say… Anything is possible in the multiverse,” when asked about Holland’s rumored involvement with the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel. If Sony wanted to use Holland — or even Maguire and Garfield as well — there would be nothing prohibiting the company from doing so. While Marvel Studios and Sony share Holland’s version of the wall-crawler, the upcoming Spider-Man 4 could have had no MCU ties following a dispute between the companies.
Marvel and Sony might be currently sharing Spider-Man, but the character’s movie rights belong exclusively to Sony. While the relationship between the companies has since been reestablished from their 2019 break-up — with the phenomenal box office run of Spider-Man: No Way Home in the middle of the pandemic and the start of work on Holland’s Spider-Man 4 in the MCU — the situation showed how Holland could appear in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Miles could visit Holland’s Spider-Man in either the MCU or an unnamed live-action universe that can be considered home to a variant of the record-breaking Spider-Man MCU movies, allowing Miles to either join the MCU or not.
