Community, Evil Dead Rise, and more official accounts have shared a flood of hilarious memes about Daylight Savings, which is taking place in most of the U.S. It makes perfect sense for Community especially to be a part of this cavalcade of mockery. The sitcom, which ran for six seasons on NBC and Yahoo! Screen and has a new movie coming to Peacock soon, has featured several jokes about the process, including Dean Pelton celebrating turning back the clock by dressing up as Tina Turner and a stinger scene involving Annie and Troy comforting Abed, who is mentally unable to handle the changing of the time.
In honor of Daylight Savings, many official TV and film accounts have posted their own hilarious memes. This includes Community itself, who shared the iconic Dean Pelton clip. Other highlights include the account for Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe (which includes the hit series Interview with the Vampire) warning any undead bloodsuckers out there that there will be more daylight than expected and Evil Dead Rise playing a riff on the iconic “dead by dawn” line from 1987’s Evil Dead II. Movie Theaters Have More To Worry About Today Than Daylight Savings Confusion
Daylight Savings can have a lot of repercussions after the clocks change. While it’s certainly not the most distressing, movie theaters can sometimes suffer due to confusion about showtimes. This, in addition to general fatigue due to losing an hour of sleep, could cause a lot more people to opt to stay home rather than go out and see a new theatrical film, even high-performing releases like Scream 6 and Creed III.
Not only is today Daylight Savings (and the birthday of screen legend Liza Minnelli), it is also the night of the Academy Awards. While the iconic ceremony has had trouble maintaining the viewership numbers of their golden age, the ceremony is still a huge draw for many viewers across the globe. Their number one audience is movie fans, leading many who would otherwise opt to go to the theater on a Sunday evening to stay home.
It’s possible that Community and company were right to warn the public about Daylight Savings, especially as it relates to movies. Another huge at-home event airing tonight is the season 1 finale of HBO’s The Last Of Us. The massive series, which is adapted from the popular video game of the same name, will be competing with the Oscars, but both will draw viewers away from theaters with a magnetic pull.
