In addition to Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, it’s now been revealed that Bad Boys 4 will feature the return of one of the duo’s key allies. After the franchise first got its start back in 1995 from director Michael Bay, Smith and Lawrence reunited as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett for Bad Boys for Life in 2020, which is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Stuck in development hell for several years, Bad Boys 4 was officially confirmed in January, with El Arbi and Fallah returning and new details now emerging.
According to a new report from Deadline, Vanessa Hudgens’ Kelly from Bad Boys for Life will be returning alongside Smith and Lawrence in Bad Boys 4, which will start filming in the next few months. Kelly was introduced in the previous film as a weapons expert, taking down criminals as part of the Advanced Miami Metro Operations (A.M.M.O.) team. It’s unclear if any other members of the team will also be returning.
What To Expect From Bad Boys 4
So far, no plot details have been revealed regarding Bad Boys 4, but this is likely to change as the movie heads into production. While franchise veterans like Smith and Lawrence will be returning, Bad Boys for Life makes clear that at least one longtime character will not be joining them. After playing a prominent role in all previous franchise entries, Joe Pantoliano’s Captain Conrad Howard was shockingly killed off during the events of the previous movie.
Bad Boys for Life could also provide several hints about what’s next for Mike and Marcus in Bad Boys 4, with the film seeing them take on leadership positions in A.M.M.O. The previous film also features the revelation that Mike has a son – Armando, played by Jacob Scipio, who serves as one of the main villains. After taking a bullet for his father, Armando ends up in prison at the end of Bad Boys for Life, but he is remorseful for his actions, potentially meaning a redemption storyline is on the way.
Many questions remain about Bad Boys 4, but it’s likely that the upcoming film will feature the same tone as all previous installments, blending violent action with comedy from both Smith and Lawrence. It’s also unclear at the moment whether the upcoming movie will be the franchise’s last. Unfortunately, with filming only set to get underway in the next few months, it will likely be quite a while before an official Bad Boys 4 trailer or poster is released.
