Star Wars Artist Imagines The Wedding Of Rey & Ben Solo

A Star Wars fanart imagines if Rey and Ben Solo had married after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. One of the most popular, yet divisive Star Wars sequel trilogy theories was that Rey and Kylo Ren would eventually become a couple. The “Reylo” theories were partially proven right in The Rise of Skywalker, although Ben Solo died and the nature of the Reylo kiss has since been retconned to an extent.

Artist Fayelovesanime (@Fayelovesanime) shared an adorable illustration on Twitter, imagining what a Rey and Ben Solo wedding would have looked like.

The Star Wars fanart draws a parallel with Anakin and Padmé’s wedding in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, which remains the only marriage scene to ever appear in a Star Wars movie. It is interesting to imagine where a hypothetical Rey and Ben Solo wedding would have happened had they officially become a couple after The Rise of Skywalker – perhaps Chandrila, Ben Solo’s home planet?

Star Wars Took Rey & Ben Solo In A Very Different Direction

While the idea of Rey and Kylo Ren becoming a couple seemed virtually impossible after Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi made the Reylo theories not that far-fetched. The Last Jedi established that Rey and Kylo had a strong bond, even though Supreme Leader Snoke was influencing it to make it more powerful. Still, moments like Kylo Ren and Rey sharing their fears and frustrations with the help of their Force dyad while almost touching hands suggest that a Ben Solo redemption and some sort of relationship between the two could be in the cards.

Perhaps the Star Wars sequels’ biggest problem was the lack of a pre-established overarching plan, which led to multiple inconsistencies and even retcons going from one movie to another. Curiously, The Last Jedi’s Reylo hints were one of the few things that were carried over from the Rian Johnson Star Wars film to The Rise of Skywalker without any major changes. Ben Solo was eventually redeemed, followed by a kiss between Rey and Ben right before the latter’s abrupt death.

Oddly enough, the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novelization reveals that Rey and Ben Solo’s kiss was a “kiss of gratitude.” Given how inconsistent the Star Wars sequel trilogy was – Rey was a “nobody” until she was a Palpatine – whether Rey and Kylo Ren would become a couple might have been open to discussion until very late into the making of the films. Given how Ben dies right after kissing Rey, the scene ended up feeling misplaced. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker attempted a Shakespearean tragedy for Rey and Ben Solo, instead of the happily ever after illustrated by this creative fanart.
