Marvel Studios has released a new promo for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, featuring first looks at some exciting returning characters. Thanks to a few shots of new footage beyond what was seen in the main trailers, Sylvester Stallone is confirmed to have a role in the upcoming sequel, reprising his role as Starkar Ogord aka Starhawk, a Ravager captain whose elite team reunited at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Likewise, Nathan Fillion will be returning to the Guardians franchise as well, albeit in a brand-new role.

In the new “Greatest Hits” promo clip Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Stallone’s Stakar is seen in space with his helmet on, hinting that audiences may finally see the MCU’s Starhawk in action. Additionally, Fillion’s Guardians cameo is in the promo as well, playing a brand-new character as opposed to the blue-skinned alien he voiced in the first movie. You can check out the promo below:

While there’s zero context for Fillion’s character, the promo confirms his face will be on-screen for what will likely be a brief cameo. In comparison, Stallone’s Starhawk has potential to be more of an extended role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Will Starhawk’s Entire Team Return In GOTG Vol 3?

As seen in one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s many post-credits scenes, the sacrifice of Yondu Udonta inspired Starkar to reunite their old team of Ravagers. As such, the roster is made up of original Guardians from the comics: Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum), Mainframe (Miley Cyrus), the Lem sorcerer Krugarr, and Stakar’s wife Aleta (Michelle Yeoh). Because the group intended to stick together as a team going forward, it would be very exciting to see Stakar’s Ravagers in action for the final chapter of the Guardians franchise.

It’s been confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the “last ride” and “farewell tour” for the MCU’s Guardians, and their imminent battle with the High Evolutionary will likely be their most harrowing fight yet. Keeping that in mind, it would be very exciting to see not only Stakar’s appearance in the new sequel, but also his entire team arriving as backup to support the current Guardians of the Galaxy, possibly in connection with Gamora who reportedly becomes a Ravager in the new movie.

Regardless, it’s nice to see that James Gunn has planned to wrap up even the smallest hanging threads like Stakar before the Guardians trilogy comes to an end. Here’s hoping the rest of the Ravagers will be featured as well. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases in theaters on May 5th.
