A Captain America: New World Order fan trailer imagines Sam Wilson’s first solo Marvel Cinematic Universe movie after the events of his series. Steve Rogers’ time as Captain America came to an end in Avengers: Endgame as the now-retired hero passed on his shield to his partner. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Anthony Mackie’s character struggling with accepting the new title. But by the end of the season finale, Sam abandoned his mantle as Falcon and officially embraced the Captain America legacy. Not long after the finale, Marvel Studios revealed that Mackie would go on to star in Captain America 4, called New World Order.

What Captain America: New World Order Could Be About

In true Marvel Studios tradition, details are being kept under wraps about Captain America: New World Order. Aside from Mackie’s titular character, a few cast members have thus far been confirmed to appear in the new MCU installment. Tim Blake Nelson is reprising the role of The Incredible Hulk‘s Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. Leader, who hasn’t been seen in the MCU since the 2008 film. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly will be back as Joaquin Torres/the new Falcon and Isaiah Bradley, respectively. Shira Haas is also debuting in Captain America: New World Order as Marvel’s Ruth Bat-Seraph, a.k.a. Sabra, another mutant from the comics.

While plot points are being kept from the public by Marvel Studios, it wouldn’t be shocking if Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross plays a crucial role. Following William Hurt’s passing, Harrison Ford is taking over for the late actor as the MCU’s new Ross. Given that the studio went as far as to recast Ross, it suggests that he will have an imperative role in Captain America: New World Order. Whether that is to set up Ross’ potential Thunderbolts arc, possibly adapting the Red Hulk element, remains to be seen. The “New World Order” could very well be something that is instigated through Leader and Ross as the Red Hulk.

It’s highly likely that Captain America: New World Order will also cast a spotlight on the world coming to terms with Sam as the next Cap. As much as the creative team wrapped up things in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, viewers have only witnessed the start of Sam’s Captain America journey. It will make sense if Captain America: New World Order takes place very soon after the Disney+ finale. Doing it that way helps the MCU not to miss Sam’s early days in this new role. Once the cameras are rolling on Captain America: New World Order, it will be intriguing to learn more about the mysterious Phase 5 film.
