Mean Girls: The Musical has cast actors in the iconic roles of Plastics Karen and Gretchen, as well as Regina George’s boyfriend Aaron.
The upcoming film adaptation of the Mean Girls musical has cast three more major characters. The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical adapted by Jeff Richmond, Nell Benjamin, and Tina Fey from Fey’s screenplay for the iconic 2004 high school comedy of the same name. All three versions of the story focus on a young woman named Cady Heron arriving at a new school and squaring off against a trio of queen bees known as The Plastics.
Per Deadline, three new cast members have joined the fray. Avantika, Bebe Wood, and Christopher Briney have all come aboard, playing the airheaded Karen Smith, the gossipy Gretchen Wieners, and the Plastics leader Regina George’s boyfriend Aaron Samuels, respectively. The Mean Girls musical’s cast already includes Angourie Rice as Cady, Reneé Rapp as Regina George, Auli’i Cravalho as the outcast Janis Ian, and Jaquel Spivey as Janis’ best friend Damien.
How You Know the New Mean Girls: The Musical Cast Members
All three new cast members will likely be familiar to those up-to-date with recent young adult properties. Briney is the newest star on the scene, but he is already well known for a prominent recent heartthrob role in the coming-of-age series The Summer I Turned Pretty. The actor played Conrad on the Prime Video series, which has been renewed for season 2 and is due this year.
Wood, on the other hand, has been working consistently since 2011. As a child, she was a main cast member on the Ryan Murphy sitcom The New Normal, going on to appear in series including The Real O’Neals and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. Her most recent and likely most prominent role was as Lake Meriweather in the high school series Love, Victor, a spinoff from the universe of Love, Simon, on which she was a member of the main cast for all three seasons.
The final new addition to the Mean Girls cast, Avantika, got her start in a variety of Indian Telugu-language films in the mid-2010s. More recently, she has appeared in English-language projects including the Rebel Wilson Netflix comedy Senior Year (which also starred Wood’s Love, Victor co-star Michael Cimino), the Disney animated series Mira, Royal Detective, and the hit HBO show The Sex Lives of College Girls. Given this trio’s roster of teen genre bona fides, the cast of the musical is shaping up to be something special.
