A video revealing a brief look at the original fight planned for Anakin and Count Dooku’s duel in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith has been recently unearthed by the movie’s stunt director, and the original lightsaber choreography highlights interesting details of Anakin’s fighting style. In the video, Hayden Christensen and Count Dooku’s stunt actor are seen rehearsing the end of their duel at the beginning of the movie. Receiving more than 4.5 million views on Twitter in its first 5 days, the video has sparked a lot of praise for Christensen’s portrayal of his character’s lightsaber skills and personality.

Anakin’s history with Dooku likely influenced his style during the duel, pushing him to show off his power which he insists to Dooku has doubled since their last battle. Anakin’s teenage arrogance has matured into recklessness as he tries to exceed every expectation of himself. His brash lightsaber moves echo his paranoia that he’s constantly being underestimated and needs to prove himself to enemies and allies alike.
This insecurity and resentment over being undervalued by the Jedi will eventually be a driving force behind Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side. Though his skills are clearly incredible, Anakin’s overconfidence and need to prove his worth are a dangerous mix that ultimately cost him everything. Accusing Obi-Wan of underestimating him is the last thing Anakin will do before his fateful almost-demise on Mustafar. As Count Dooku says as their duel begins, “Double the pride, double the fall.”
Anakin’s pride and willingness to risk anything, including a limb or two, for the sake of achieving his goal ultimately drives him into Darth Sidious’s grip. His desire to save Padmé from a possible death leads him to seek out a Sith ability, and in his attempt to get that information from Darth Sidious, he betrays the Jedi. Though it didn’t make it in the final cut of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Anakin’s risky lightsaber move perfectly captures not only his effectiveness in battle, but the fatal flaw that eventually transforms him into Darth Vader as well.
