Backstage News On The Identity Of Uncle Howdy

[ad_1]

The Bray Wyatt storyline continues to creep toward the Royal Rumble, where he’ll wrestle LA Knight. Fans are still itching to know who Uncle Howdy is.

Uncle Howdy has been a consistent aspect of Bray Wyatt’s presentation since the Eater of Worlds made his re-debut at Extreme Rules, but WWE fans still have no idea who the masked man is. For the first several weeks of Wyatt’s time on SmackDown, most fans assumed that the character represented a new dark side version of Bray and was being played by him. Like a new-look version of The Fiend. It turns out that might not be the case, however, as Uncle Howdy has now physically stood beside Wyatt in the ring and attacked him. Anything is possible in the bonkers world of professional wrestling, but as it stands, Uncle Howdy and Bray Wyatt are two different men.

This begs the question: who’s behind the mask of Uncle Howdy? Fightful Select recently shared a report about just how closely WWE is protecting their identity. “Whoever Uncle Howdy is, WWE is playing it close to the vest. Fightful has inquired repeatedly about who has portrayed the Bray Wyatt-contingent gimmick. We were told that thus far, the person who is in the outfit doesn’t take it off backstage in front of other people to reveal themselves.” WWE has proven capable of keeping secrets whenever it wants to, and this is one of those times. At this juncture, no one has publicly stated who Uncle Howdy is and fans are left with theories and guesses.

WWE Fans Think Uncle Howdy Is Bo Dallas, But Why?

Bo Dallas encourages the WWE Universe to Bo-lieve before a match against R-Truth.

Some members of the WWE Universe have convinced themselves that Uncle Howdy is Bray Wyatt’s real-life brother, Bo Dallas, but it’s unclear exactly why. Dallas hasn’t wrestled a match for the company since November 2019 and was released in April 2021. While some former superstars strike out onto the independent scene or join a rival promotion like AEW, Dallas—real name Taylor Rotunda—hasn’t been actively wrestling since his release. Of course, that doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility, but this seems like some head cannon that gained traction on Reddit and has taken hold. Before the January 6 episode of SmackDown, no hints have indicated that Bo Dallas is playing Uncle Howdy.

It could be a fun twist, but WWE could go in any number of directions with the Uncle Howdy character. Triple H and his writing team might not even be committed to who is playing the role yet, instead allowing a random 6-foot-1 wrestler to go out and hit Wyatt with a Sister Abigail before vanishing backstage. That seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened. For now, fans could find out who Uncle Howdy is at the Royal Rumble later this month. Or it might take years, like with the Sister Abigail reveal. Until Howdy takes off his match, it’ll be entertaining to see audience members guessing who it could be. The WWE Universe has guessed everyone from Brock Lesnar to Edge, and this seems like a case where it’ll be the one person no one expects.
