Batwoman Fan Art Makes Great Case For Emma Stone Joining The DCU

[ad_1]

A new piece of Batwoman fan art puts forward a great case for Cruella star Emma Stone to join the DC Universe as James Gunn’s version of Kate Kane.

A new piece of DC Universe fan art imagines Emma Stone joining the comic book franchise as Kate Kane’s Batwoman. First created in 1956 by Edmond Hamilton and Sheldon Moldoff, the original Silver Age Batwoman was initially conceived as Kathy Kane. The modern iteration of the character, however, was later rewritten as Kate Kane, the Jewish cousin of Bruce Wayne who would go on to become the highest-profile gay superhero to be published by the DC label. In 2018, Batwoman made her live-action debut in the Arrowverse’s Elseworlds crossover event, played by Ruby Rose. Shortly afterwards she also received her own spinoff series, though Rose would famously depart the role after Batwoman season 1, making way for Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder.

Now a new piece of fan art from digital artist horrific.heroics imagines a new face donning Kate Kane’s Batwoman cowl, namely Cruella star Emma Stone.

Depicted with Kate’s trademark red hair, Stone’s Batwoman is shown wearing a similar Batsuit to the one originally worn by Rose in the Arrowverse series. With the future of the DC Universe currently in a state of flux following James Gunn and Peter Safran’s studio shakeup, this art makes a compelling case for Stone to join the franchise.

Will Batwoman Finally Get The Big Screen Treatment?

Despite having a comic book history dating back nearly 70 years, it took some time for Batwoman to finally make her first live-action appearance thanks to The CW’s Arrowverse. Often overshadowed by Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl as the more popular of Batman’s female counterparts, Rose’s portrayal of the character would end a decades-long drought and introduce a whole new audience to an exceedingly important member of the greater Bat-family. Now with Gunn and Safran currently charting a 10-year plan for the future of the DCU, many are wondering if Kate Kane’s Batwoman could finally make her way onto the big screen.

At the moment it is not yet clear what Gunn and Safran are planning in terms of the DCU’s use of Gotham’s Bat-family. While the former has intimated that Batman himself will continue to play an important role in the DCU’s future, there has been no word about other related characters potentially making an appearance. However, with Matt Reeves planning to keep his version of Gotham’s Dark Knight separate from the main DCU continuity, Gunn and Safran could potentially make their own mark by choosing to incorporate other Bat characters such as Batwoman, Red Hood and Nightwing.

By providing audiences with a Batman surrounded by his popular comic book allies, the DCU has the potential to offer a unique take on DC’s biggest character in a way that has never been attempted on the big screen before. With Batwoman and other key members of the Bat-family already proving themselves popular in both comics and animated outings, there is no reason they can’t translate well onto film. With Gunn set to make his first official DCU announcements sometime later this month, it will be interesting to see if Batwoman manages to figure into his plans.
