The Whale star Brendan Fraser gets his own magazine celebrating his return to acting. Fraser came to prominence in the 1990s, making a name for himself in films like Encino Man and George of the Jungle before becoming an action star with 1999’s The Mummy. In the 2010s, his career began to suffer, with the actor finding himself starring in lackluster projects. However, director Darren Aronofsky cast Fraser in his moving drama The Whale, which sees him play a morbidly obese man attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Fraser’s lauded performance has garnered the actor several awards, and he was recently nominated for the Best Actor Oscar.

A24, the studio behind The Whale, released a throwback magazine, or zine, that celebrates Fraser’s prominent return to acting, which many have dubbed the “Brenaissance.” The zine is inspired by the style of popular magazines geared toward teenagers during Fraser’s initial rise to fame. Aronofsky also penned the introduction praising his performance in The Whale, stating, “He embodied everything I saw in Charlie: deep empathy, gentle humor, and a searing emotional intelligence.” The zine is available for purchase through A24 for $6.

Fraser’s performance in The Whale has given the actor a career resurgence, with audiences equally excited about his return. His portrayal of Charlie has already netted him a Critics Choice Award, with the Academy Awards just around the corner, where the actor could win big. Still, Fraser is not resting on his laurels and has already lined up more projects.

Fraser filmed scenes for Batgirl, where he played the villain Firefly. However, that movie was shelved, leaving Fraser’s performance hidden from general audiences. He is set to appear in Brothers, a new movie from Palm Springs director Max Barbakow. Brothers will see Fraser acting alongside a stellar cast that includes Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, and Peter Dinklage.

Fraser has also landed a part in Martin Scorsese’s next directorial effort, Killers of the Flower Moon, which is due to release later this year. Killers of the Flower Moon follows a 1920s FBI murder investigation involving the Osage tribe, featuring a cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, and John Lithgow. So while Fraser may be amid a career renaissance, he has plenty of exciting projects in the works for eager audiences.
