Anyone But You, Will Gluck’s upcoming romantic comedy starring actors from Euphoria and Top Gun: Maverick, now officially has a release date.
As Anyone But You continues to generate buzz online, the romantic comedy starring Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick‘s Glen Powell has now been given a very festive release date. Directed by Will Gluck, Anyone But You quickly became a hot commodity when steamy set photos of Powell and Sweeney in swimwear were shared online. The film is said to follow two people who hate each other so much that each is actually irresistibly drawn to the other.
Now, following the set photos and the screening of Anyone But You footage at CinemaCon, Deadline reveals that the film will hit theaters on December 15. Anyone But You shares the holiday release date with Wonka, which stars Timothée Chalamet.
What To Expect From Anyone But You
Anyone But You has been given an R-rating and the film’s theatrical release date is a departure from the streaming releases that R-rated romantic comedies typically fall into these days. The movie was filmed in Australia and is said to feature various vacation-themed hijinks, including falls off of boats and spiders dropping into pants. The footage screened at CinemaCon also revealed one way in which the romantic comedy will take advantage of its R rating, namely that it includes a number of nude scenes.
In this same vein, Anyone But You‘s set photos also reveal that at least one scene will involve Powell and Sweeney getting steamy in their swimsuits, with the pair spotted filming aboard what appears to be a sailboat off the coast of Sydney. The upcoming romantic comedy evidently hopes to capitalize on the duo’s rising combined star power, with Sweeney a clear breakout star from Euphoria as Cassie and Powell stealing scenes as Hangman opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick.
An Anyone But You set video also provided a peek at another scene from the movie, with Powell leaping from a helicopter onto a dock and running to Sweeney’s character in what seems to be a grand romantic gesture. With a release date now firmly set and footage having already been screened, it’s likely that a teaser trailer of some sort will drop in the coming weeks. For now, however, Anyone But You already has the makings of a romantic comedy classic in the vein of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, potentially propelling Powell and Sweeney to greater stardom heights.
