Tom Lockyer to be released from hospital soon after Championship play-off final collapse, says Luton Town boss Rob Edwards | Football News

[ad_1]

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards says Tom Lockyer will be out of hospital soon following his collapse in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship play-off final.

Lockyer was carried off on a stretcher after just eight minutes of the Hatters’ Wembley win against Coventry and remains in hospital.

Speaking to Sky Sports News ahead of Tuesday night’s LMA Awards, Luton boss Edwards reported the 28-year-old was well on his way to recovery and would be released from hospital soon.

“He’s good, thank you for asking,” Edwards said. “He’s in the hospital at the moment, he’s very bored. Everyone’s checking in with him, everyone’s supporting him, he’s in really good hands and he will be out soon.”

Rob Edwards said he was incredibly proud of his Luton team getting promoted to the Premier League, but says he could not celebrate until he was updated that his captain Tom Lockyer was okay after being taken to hospital

Rob Page expects to welcome Lockyer back into the Wales squad in September, with the manager saying Lockyer was in good spirits during a 20-minute telephone conversation on Monday.

“You are always going to phone your players and show them support,” said Page after confirming Lockyer would be absent from next month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Armenia and Turkey.

Rob Page confirmed that Tom Lockyer would’ve been in his international plans before he collapsed during Luton’s play-off final victory over Coventry

“It was just to say that we are here for him, in any capacity. I am not going into detail of what’s happening or what’s going to happen. That’s conversations we are going to have with Luton Town Football Club.

“It would be silly of me to even suggest what those reasons (for his collapse) were and the most important thing in this is health. For us it’s just about getting him fit and ready for our camp in September.”

Wales, who picked up four points from their opening two qualifiers in March, travel to Latvia in September.

Luton CEO Gary Sweet on Sky Sports Football:

“I hope Locks is OK. My heart goes out to him. He’s having tests in hospital. He’s been monumental this season. It feels wrong to celebrate without him.

“I don’t know how we recover that. We’ve got to celebrate it, there’s 36,000 fans with us. This is also for them and the town of Luton. I’ve got loads of council members and people who are every bit with us on this journey and this is for them as well.”

DeAndre Hopkins: Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson makes pitch to reunite with former team-mate in Cleveland | NFL News

[ad_1]

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has said he would back his team signing his former team-mate DeAndre Hopkins; the former Clemson duo built a formidable partnership in three years together at the Houston Texans

Deshaun Watson would welcome a reunion with former team-mate DeAndre Hopkins

Standing a few feet from a golf green, Deshaun Watson made a pitch for DeAndre Hopkins to join him in Cleveland.

The Browns quarterback said Tuesday that he has spoken to Hopkins, his close friend and former Houston team-mate, and encouraged the three-time All-Pro wide receiver to consider a reunion.

Hopkins is a free agent after the Arizona Cardinals released him last week.

“Of course we would love to have him,” Watson said at the Browns charity golf outing.

“He knows that we had a lot of connections, but that’s kind of out of my range of things. So all I can do is make a call and see what happens and let AB (Browns general manager Andrew Berry) do the rest.”

The Browns appear to be a longshot to land the 30-year-old Hopkins because of a lack of salary cap space. But Cleveland weren’t expected to get Watson either until they lured him with a fully guaranteed $230m contract.

The idea of throwing again to Hopkins, they were team-mates for three seasons, has Watson thinking big.

Although Hopkins did not list Cleveland as one of his preferred teams, Watson said that doesn’t mean he has ruled out the Browns.

“I’ll just say this, D-Hop, DeAndre Hopkins would love to be in a place where the opportunity is there for us to win,” Watson added.

“We check all those boxes and I think for us to know and make sure we check all those boxes on the national stage, we’ve got to go out there and prove it and I think D-Hop would love to be a part of that.”

The Browns upgraded their receiving group in the offseason, but adding a player of Hopkins’ calibre could be a game-changer for a team coming off a 7-10 season.

Coach Kevin Stefanski would not comment on the team’s interest in Hopkins, saying he was pleased with some of its offseason additions.

“I really, really like our wide receiver room,” Stefanski said. “I love the guys that are in there. Andrew and his crew are always looking at every avenue and that type of thing, so I won’t comment specifically on the player other than to say I really like our roster.”

Troy Aikman refuses to rule out Tom Brady possibility at Raiders

[ad_1]

Tom Brady reportedly buying an ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders appears to have set off a chain of events that’s gripped the NFL with both hands.

Over the past couple of weeks, reports emerged of Tom Brady aiming to buy a minority stake in the Raiders. Brady’s mission to own a piece of the franchise aligned with his move to buy a stake in Mark Davis’ Las Vegas Aces.

While Brady’s ownership stake still hasn’t been made official, the move dovetailed with a stunning report this past week.

Raiders’ owner Mark Davis told ESPN’s @PGutierrezESPN: “We have come to an agreement for Tom Brady to become a partner in the Raiders and we have submitted it to the NFL for approval. We’re excited for Tom to join the Raiders.”

Everything we know about Jimmy Garoppolo’s failed physical so far amid Tom Brady rumors

It turns out, the Raiders’ star acquisition in the offseason Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly failed his physical prior to signing with the franchise.

Luckily for the Raiders, there is a provision in his contract, per Pro Football Talk, stemming from the failed physical that gives LV an out.

The snowballing of this report, in addition to Brady’s interest in the franchise, spawned rumors that Brady could suit up for the Raiders. Cowboys legend Troy Aikman refused to rule out that possibility, far-fetched as it may be.

In an interview with TMZ, Aikman said:

“I don’t want to speak for Tom but I wouldn’t rule anything out.”

The former Cowboys QB added:

“I would bet that just nothing is off the table as far as what may occur during the season or what Tom’s role may be.”

In an earlier report pertaining to Brady owning a part of the Raiders, Adam Schefter indicated that the seven-time Super Bowl champion’s investment is expected to be “passive,” though that would certainly change if he were to suit up in 2023.

Schefter did add that the legendary QB would not have any operational control over the Raiders in business or in football matters.

What the odds say on Tom Brady’s potential NFL return

BetOnline has the following odds for Week 1 Raiders QB IF Not Jimmy Garoppolo
Tom Brady 2/1
Brian Hoyer 5/2
Matt Ryan 3/1
Nick Foles 6/1
Aidan O’Connell 7/1
Carson Wentz 7/1
Andy Dalton 10/1

Sin City certainly appears to have fallen head over heels for Tom Brady.

Odds of the Patriots legend being a Week 1 starter for Las Vegas are 2/1 while Brian Hoyer, the current backup QB in the Raiders’ depth chart is at 5/2. Surprisingly, rookie Aidan O’Connell, who was drafted in the fourth round is nowhere near the top.

WATCH: MS Dhoni cuts a special five-tier cake as CSK receives a rousing welcome after IPL 2023 triumph

[ad_1]

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) equalled Mumbai Indians’ (MI) record feat of five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles by defeating defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the summit clash of the IPL 2023 on Monday (May 29).  Notably, the victory for CSK came on the reserve day of the event, as the final was postponed due to heavy rain in Ahmedabad. Although rain posed a great challenge on the second day as well, the game saw overall 35 over being bowled, and Chennai eventually clinched the trophy.

Following the conclusion of the final, Dhoni and Co. celebrated the triumph in a grand style as they received a rousing welcome in their hotel. The video of the same was released by the official CSK handle on various social media platforms. While the clip starts with CSK players travelling back to the hotel from the venue and dancing in joy, it ends with Dhoni cutting a special five-tier cake.

Here’s the video:

Speaking of CSK’s road to the title, the Chennai-based team failed to contain the batters of GT after electing to field first. They leaked too many runs in the middle overs, which resulted in Gujarat posting a huge 214-run total for the loss of four wickets. Sai Sudharshan was the top scorer for his team in the contest. The left-handed batter contributed 96 runs off 47 deliveries to GT’s total.

Despite GT’s daunting total, fans were still hopeful of a great batting performance by CSK batters. However, the rain came in as a spoiler before CSK openers could actually get going, and the play was halted. Later, after immense hard work of the groundstaff, the Super Kings were given a revised 171-run target in 15 overs as per the DLS method.

Chasing 171 for victory, Chennai’s top order kept them alive in the run chase. Meanwhile, the final touch to the match was given by their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who hammered a four and a six on the last two balls of the ultimate over when CSK needed ten runs to win.

Novak Djokovic sends political message about Kosovo at French Open after violence erupts | Tennis News

[ad_1]

Novak Djokovic has risked fuelling political tensions in his home region with a political message about Kosovo – after peacekeeping troops were hurt when ethnic Serbs clashed with police over the weekend.

Following his win against Aleksandr Kovacevic in the first round of the French Open, Djokovic who is Serbian, wrote on the camera lens: “Kosovo is the heart of Serbia. Stop the violence.”

His comments came as the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeeping force claimed that 25 of its troops were injured in clashes with ethnic Serbs in northern Kosovo.

Kosovo declared independence in 2008 – but the two countries have been foes for decades, as Belgrade refused to recognise its sovereignty.

Violence broke out in the north of the country over the weekend after ethnic Albanian mayors were installed in Serbian-dominated areas.

The clashes were the latest incident as tensions soared over the past week, with Serbia putting the country’s military on high alert and sending more troops to the border with Kosovo.

Meanwhile, the US and the European Union have ramped up efforts to help solve the Kosovo-Serbia dispute, fearing further instability in Europe as Russia’s war rages in Ukraine.

The EU has made it clear that Serbia and Kosovo must normalise their relations to advance in their intentions to join the bloc.

On Monday, Kosovar police and the NATO-led KFOR, were seen protecting the municipality buildings in Zvecan, Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Mitrovica – which are four communes in the northern region that held early elections last month.

Djokovic, whose father was born in Kosovo, told Serbian journalists: “I am not a politician, nor do I intend to enter into debates.

“As a Serb, it hurts me what is happening in Kosovo. Our people have been expelled from the municipalities. This is the least I could do. As a public figure, I feel an obligation to show support for our people and all of Serbia.”

He added: “I hear there was a lot of criticism on social media. I don’t know if someone will punish me or something like that, but I would do it again. I am against wars and conflicts of any kind.

“Kosovo is our heart, stronghold, the centre of the most important events, the biggest battle took place there, the most monasteries. There are many reasons why I wrote this.”

In November, Serbia’s football team were fined by FIFA at the World Cup after a flag showing Kosovo as part of the country was displayed in their changing room.

Djokovic, 36, made his comments after his 6-3 6-2 7-6 (7-1) win against Kovacevic.

He faces Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the second round in Paris on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Nuwanidu Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka, Pramod Madushan, Sahan Arachchige, and Dimuth Wellalage are among those to be dropped.

It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan have already declared their squad for the series, and they will be captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi on the tour.

Sri Lanka would look to figure things out and make the most of this battle, as ahead lies the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The series might also witness the ODI debut of Pathirana following his exceptional run in the T20 format.

NHL expert highlights Vegas Golden Knights’ strength

[ad_1]

In a recent interview on SportsCenter, NHL expert Frankie Corrado sat down with host Sarah Nicole Davis to discuss the remarkable performance of the Vegas Golden Knights in their Western Conference title-clinching 6-0 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Corrado praised the team’s outstanding display and highlighted their depth and strength throughout the lineup.

Corrado said:

“They were outstanding tonight. They started the game and they set the tone for this team early on. They play with a lot of energy. They play with a lot of speed. They play with a lot of tenacity but they can make plays”.

He acknowledged the team’s relentless style of play and emphasized that the Golden Knight’s fourth line is not just there to chew up minutes, but is a vital contributor to the team’s success.

He added:

“There is a lot of ownership at the bottom of the lineup for the Vegas Golden Knights and it is obviously very advantageous for them because on a night like tonight where Jack Eichel hits the post and Chandler Stephenson doesn’t get any points, it’s like your fourth line really came through for you”.

Corrado emphasized the importance of depth and ownership at the bottom of the lineup for the Golden Knights. He noted that on a night when star players like Jack Eichel and Chandler Stephenson may not find the scoresheet, it becomes crucial for the fourth line to step up and deliver, which they did in the decisive victory.

“We’re seeing the depth of this Vegas Golden Knights team, where they can kind of negate the other team’s superstars and best players because they have so much depth up and down the lineup,” Corrado added.

The NHL expert further highlighted the team’s ability to neutralize opposing star players.

Corrado’s comments shed light on the strength and resilience of the Vegas Golden Knights. Their ability to set the tone early, play with energy and speed, and make impactful plays throughout the lineup has been a defining factor in their success.

With contributions from the fourth line and a deep roster, the Golden Knights have proven their ability to compete against any team in the league.

As the Golden Knights advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in their franchise history, their depth and balanced approach will undoubtedly be essential in their quest for the ultimate prize.

The team’s ability to rely on every player, from star performers to fourth-line contributors, arguably sets them apart as a formidable force in the NHL.

Vegas Golden Knights dominate to secure Stanley Cup Finals

The Vegas Golden Knights dominated the Dallas Stars in Game 6, clinching the Western Conference title with an emphatic 6-0 victory. This historic win secured the franchise’s first-ever trip to the Stanley Cup Finals since its establishment in 2018.

From the opening minutes, the Golden Knights showcased their dominance, leaving the Stars struggling to find a response. William Carrier started the scoring with a remarkable backhand goal assisted by Keegan Kolesar early in the first period.

The momentum continued to build as William Karlsson extended the lead to 2-0 with a powerplay goal, assisted by Nicolas Roy. Kolesar himself found the back of the net, giving the Knights a commanding 3-0 advantage heading into the second period.

The onslaught continued in the second period, with Jonathan Marchessault adding another goal to make it 4-0. The Knights’ offensive prowess carried into the final period, as Karlsson scored his second goal of the night early on, followed by Michael Amadio securing the sixth and final goal.

The team effort was evident, with Karlsson recording two goals and an assist, with significant offensive contributions seen from Amadio, Carrier, Kolesar, and Smith.

Goaltender Adin Hill’s outstanding performance resulted in 23 saves and a shutout for the Knights.

The Vegas Golden Knights will now face the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals. Game 1 of the series begins on Saturday, June 3 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
