Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive first look at the satirical comedy, Fool’s Paradise. This scathing look at the film industry is from Always Sunny In Philadelphia star and co-creator Charlie Day, who makes his directing debut while also writing and starring in the movie. It also features one of the final performances from Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), with an ensemble cast that includes Ken Jeong (Crazy Rich Asians), Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), Adrien Brody (The Pianist), Common (John Wick: Chapter 2), Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), and John Malkovich. Fool’s Paradise will be released On Demand and on Digital on June 2 via Lionsgate.
Fool’s Paradise follows a method actor (Day) who refuses to leave his trailer, causing his unfortunate publicist (Jeong) to find the actor’s double, a mentally ill man (also Day) who was just released from the hospital. Assisted by a powerful producer, the publicist helps his new client to become a huge star with the unfortunate moniker of Latte Pronto. Of course, fame and fortune are not all they’re cracked up to be, and both the method actor and Latte must fight their way to find what really matters most. On their journey to self-discovery, they’ll meet a cavalcade of characters, from beautiful leading ladies to power-mad media moguls, unpredictable directors, and unhoused action heroes.
What to Expect from Fool’s Paradise
In this exclusive clip presented by Screen Rant, Latte Pronto is accosted by his costar Chad Lux, (Brody) at Craft Services. Lux is praising what he thinks is Latte’s own method acting and claims he now only goes half method, since he claims full method led to some unfortunate situations in the past. During the discussion, the duo is repeatedly offered chairs by some overly helpful Production Assistants until Lux finally snaps.
In the trailer for Fool’s Paradise, the audience gets a taste of the movie’s satirical and hilarious take on the film industry. After being dumped on the streets of Los Angeles because the state won’t pay for his medical care, a chance encounter leads the newly christened “Latte Pronto” on a whirlwind tour of Hollywood. From being cast in a major motion picture to replace another actor, getting his team of agents, publicists, and lawyers, appearing on a late show, to marrying his gorgeous co-star, the film is a wild ride from start to finish. It’s not all easy money and fame though, and it may all come crashing down when one Ed Cote (Malkovich) is determined to find out who “Latte” really is.
June promises to be a good month for Day, as the month sees not only the release of Fool’s Paradise, but also the return of his hit series Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which returns on June 7th. The series doesn’t seem to be showing signs of stopping, and its recently released trailer for the new series revealed that Season 16 will feature a cameo from Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad). In the scene, Day’s Charlie Kelly is driving the duo around, and references another famous Cranston performance when he calls the actor “Mr. Malcolm”.
Fool’s Paradise will release on June 2 through On Demand and Digital platforms.
