Scream VI star Courteney Cox shares a fun video involving her dogs and Ghostface. Cox returned to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in the latest installment of the Scream franchise. She was the only star from the original 1996 film to return, after David Arquette’s Dewey Riley died in the 2022 film and Neve Campbell chose not to return as Sidney Prescott. However, the sixth film compensated for both stars’ absence with the return of fan-favorite Kirby Reed, played by Hayden Panettiere.
Now, Cox has shared a video on her Instagram page that continues her connection with the Scream franchise. Check it out below:
In the video, Cox explains that she has returned from a trip to New York and has been absent from her house for a long time. Stating how excited she is to see her dogs again finally, the two puppies arrive and go to Ghostface instead, who lurks in the frame’s background.
Courtney Cox’s Connection To The Scream Franchise Is Ongoing
Aside from being the only one of the core three protagonists to return in Scream VI, reprising Gale Weathers, Cox has shared several social media videos in which Ghostface makes an appearance. After returning home from Montreal where the sixth film was shot, Cox confirmed that she had wrapped filming for the sequel through a video on Instagram. In that same video, Ghostface stalks her through her security cameras, with the video’s caption stating, “Does this B***H ever get tired?“
With Cox’s strong connection to the franchise, Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett finally gave Gale Weathers a moment that fans clamored for many years. In the film, Ghostface finally directly calls Gale Weathers, after five films in which the character investigated and reported on the murders but had never received a call from Ghostface. It took 27 years before the moment occurred, but it solidified that Cox isn’t done with the Scream franchise, as much as Scream VI moved considerably away from its legacy characters.
Whether Gale Weathers returns for the franchise’s yet-to-be-confirmed Scream 7 remains to be seen. However, Cox’s connection to the franchise isn’t solely based off the movies but on everything beyond her work in the films, including her social media videos in which she consistently teases that she may not be done with the franchise after all. It is very likely that a seventh film gets greenlit sooner than later, after the critical and commercial success of the sixth film, which could also see the return of Campbell as Sidney Prescott. And fans who want to see Cox return to her iconic role of Gale Weathers are now able to, as Scream VI is currently playing in theaters everywhere.
