DC Fans Already Found The Perfect Lois Lane For James Gunn’s Superman

DC fans come up with the perfect candidate to play the DCU’s Lois Lane opposite a younger Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

DC fans choose the best actor to play Lois Lane in the DCU’s Superman: Legacy. With the birth of the DCU comes a new group of actors who will portray DC’s extensive cast of characters. James Gunn’s announcement for the DCU’s first chapter, “Gods and Monsters,” lists a variety of confirmed projects, but it includes no mention of the actors who will star in them, with Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller being the only likely exception. But even before major DC characters such as Batman and Superman are cast, fans are already coming up with their own choices for key figures like Lois Lane.

Reddit user Blue_Robin_04 shares his interest for Riverdale actor Camila Mendes in the DCU’s Lois Lane opposite the DCU’s yet-to-be-recast Superman. The DC fan argues that Mendes’ performance as Veronica Lodge in Riverdale aligns with Lois Lane’s characterization due to Veronica’s kind but no-nonsense personality. Camila Mendes’ resemblance to the DC Animated Universe’s version of the Daily Planet reporter only adds points in her favor.

Fellow Reddit users voice their affinity with the fancast, praising Camila Mendes’ Veronica Lodge as a highlight of Riverdale. They also explain that Mendes’ age more or less lines up with the comic book character, taking into account that Superman: Legacy is set to release July 11, 2025. Camila Mendes will be 31 by 2025, and the DCU’s Superman is expected to be around 25 years old — an age difference that’s not unfamiliar in various depictions of the characters. Naturally, other Reddit users also come up with their own choices.

Why Camila Mendes Is A Good Choice For The DCU’s Lois Lane

Camila Mendes in Riverdale and the DCU's Superman Legacy

Every actor who has played Lois Lane has provided a unique take on the character in terms of personality and physical appearance. For instance, Margot Kidder managed to break out of the “damsel in distress” mold with her innocent yet stubborn personality in Richard Donner’s Superman movies, Amy Adams’ made her redhead Lois an especially affectionate iteration in the DCEU, and Elizabeth Tulloch’s version jumped straight into the battlefield in Superman and Lois. Camila Mendes’ Veronica shares all these attributes in Riverdale, as she’s passionate and confident but sweet and kind-hearted.

Camila Mendes has also displayed similar characteristics in other roles. For instance, Mendes stars in Do Revenge as the righteously vengeful Drea, as well as the seemingly innocent Katie in Dangerous Lies and the morally ambiguous Ester in Coyote Lake. Mendes’ filmography may not be as vast as Amy Adams’, but a role in a Hollywood blockbuster as big as the Grant-Morrison-inspired Superman: Legacy can help her display her full talents.

It’s still too early to know which actors will join Superman: Legacy, but fancasts like that of Camila Mendes as Lois Lane are useful ideas for those in charge of the DCU. Perhaps James Gunn and Peter Safran have very different casting choices in mind. However, given Camila Mendes’ experience in Riverdale and other roles, she could be a strong candidate.
