Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name into the history books by smashing the fastest-ever fifty in Indian Premier League (IPL). Yashasvi’s record feat came in the 56th match of IPL 2023 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday (May 11). The left-handed batter’s exploit guided Rajasthan to a convincing nine-wicket victory over the Kolkata-based team in the contest.

Asked to bat first, KKR started slow and could manage to set a target of 149/8 for RR in their allotted 20 overs. Venkatesh Iyer was the top scorer for his team, with 57 runs off 42 balls. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan, taking four wickets for 25 runs in his quota of four overs.

In response, Rajasthan chased down the target with ease and won the match by nine wickets in just 13.1 overs. Yashasvi played a brilliant knock of 98 runs off 47 deliveries, including twelve fours and five sixes. Sanju Samson also played well and scored 48 runs off 29 balls. On the other hand, Shardul Thakur was the only bowler to scalp a wicket for KKR.

Yashasvi was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sensational knock. Notably, the 21-year-old is currently the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023, with 576 runs in twelve matches. He even registered his maiden century in the ongoing tournament and became the fourth youngest batter to score a ton in the cash-rich league.

Following his knock against KKR, many people from the cricket fraternity lauded Yashasvi and shared their best wishes for the young Indian batter. While Virat Kohli took to his Instagram to congratulate the Mumbai cricketer, Virender Sehwag posted a special message for Yashasvi on his official Twitter handle.

The previous fastest fifty record holder KL Rahul also took to Twitter and doffed his head to Yashasvi. In the meantime, other notable names to praise the opening batter included the likes of Ian Bishop, Michael Vaughan, Brett Lee and many others.
