What To Expect From James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

guardians of the galaxy vol 3 2023

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is one of the most beloved in the entire MCU, with Gunn’s exploration of the found family concept, mixed in with the perfect balance between humor and dread, crafting a unique series. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special could be considered a peaceful prologue, as the recent special released on Disney+ gave audiences one last feel-good adventure with the Guardians before the team sets off on what should be their last outing. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rumors have pointed to at least one member of the Guardians not living through the end of the movie.

While there is currently no official word on the matter, nor should there be as Marvel Studios wants to keep the plot twists of the movie a secret until release, two characters have been at the forefront of fan theories regarding the major death: Rocket and Drax. Gunn has talked for years about how Rocket will be the central point of the movie, and the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer teased that by revealing the first look at a young Rocket; it’s been confirmed the movie will explore his origins. Rocket was experimented on by the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), the movie’s villain, when he was young. It’s possible that Rocket’s past and present collide as the character faces off against his biggest foe and dies, providing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with a climatic moment.

Drax’s case is a different beast, as it is more directly involved with the fact that actor Dave Bautista has publicly declared that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last time playing the role. Following Bautista’s latest movie release, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the actor confirmed he will be moving on from the MCU. With Gunn and Bautista leaving, if the Guardians continue in the MCU, it will be with a new iteration of the team, possibly including Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, who will debut in the MCU during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
