How Laurence Fishburne Sets The Stage For John Wick 4 After Chapter 3 Ending

[ad_1]

Laurence Fishburne has opened up about how the Bowery King sets the stage for John Wick: Chapter 4 following the end of the previous film. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum‘s final scene saw Fishburne’s Bowery King enlisting a heavily-injured John Wick to help him take down the High Table following the Adjudicator disfiguring his face. Promotionals for John Wick: Chapter 4 indicate the King will continue to assist John when the film begins.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Fishburne hinted at how the Bowery King will set the stage for John Wick: Chapter 4. He indicated that his character would get screen time during the film’s opening, which sets the tone for the start of the movie. Check out what Fishburne had to say below:

“That whole opening thing with the speech about, ‘I was here before the beginning of time!’ The way he gets to set the table, and it allows me to use my voice in a really beautiful way in the tunnel with all the reverberation. The way Chad [Stahelski] shot it, it was really mysterious and cool.”

The Bowery King’s Role In John Wick: Chapter 4 Explained

Fishburne’s statement implies that the Bowery King will play an important role in the opening minutes of John Wick: Chapter 4, setting the stage for the rest of the film. Images of Fishburne and Reeves from the movie indicate the King, alongside Winston, will help John prepare for his battle against the Marquis de Gramont for a seat at the High Table. This could mean the Bowery King will open the film with a signature, riddle-like speech about how John can win against the Table.

It’s unclear, however, if the Bowery King will have a major role to play outside of preparing John for his main mission in the film. Trailers for John Wick: Chapter 4 indicate many of the King’s scenes will be underground, which reflects how he had to go into hiding by the end of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. So far, though, there’s no clarity on whether he goes above ground to assist John or if he continues to stay in hiding after giving John his new suit.

With a 2-hour and 49-minute runtime, John Wick: Chapter 4 may still have plenty of surprising ways to get the Bowery King involved in the main conflict. Given that he was punished by the High Table, it’s possible that he will use his remaining forces to make a massive power play against them, with John’s challenge of the Marquis de Gramont’s seat giving him an opening to do so. If the Bowery King does take his fight directly to the High Table, then John Wick: Chapter 4 might see him in his most prominent role in the series.
