Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool 3 training is in full gear, with the actor sharing a new video of his workout to become Wolverine once again. Jackman is well known for achieving an impressive physique during his more than 20 years playing the member of the X-Men. The actor will be reprising his iconic Wolverine role in next year’s Deadpool 3, which partners him up with friend Ryan Reynolds for an adventure set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As such, Jackman is training hard to get back in Wolverine shape.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Jackman shared on Twitter a new workout video of his Deadpool 3 training with the caption “I’m #becomingwolverineagain.

In 2017, the ending of the movie Logan appeared to seal the fate of Jackman’s Wolverine, with the character dying and receiving a tender homage in the form of Dafne Keen’s Laura turning the cross on his grave into an “X” to symbolize Wolverine’s X-Men past. However, Jackman is set to return, now in the MCU, as Wolverine.

Why Hugh Jackman Should Not Be The MCU’s Wolverine

While Jackman will be playing Wolverine in the MCU, the actor should not be the main version of the character in that universe. Marvel Studios is currently developing its Multiverse Saga, which allows actors from the Fox X-Men universe to cross over into the MCU as versions of their characters. Patrick Stewart’s Professor X was seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, albeit as a multiverse variant of the character, rather than a Charles Xavier from the X-Men movie timeline.

Deadpool 3 should use Jackman’s Wolverine in a similar role, albeit bigger, as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did with Stewart’s Professor X. Jackman was pretty set in the past about being done with the role of Wolverine after 2017’s Logan. However, the actor also made it clear he had the desire to share the screen with the MCU’s Avengers, something he can now achieve with a stint in the MCU following Deadpool 3. After the movie, Jackman’s return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars would give him the chance to fulfill his wishes, with that film rumored to include several actors from Marvel’s live-action history.

Avengers: Secret Wars will end the Multiverse Saga, meaning Jackman could get one big event movie to serve as his final chapter as Wolverine, perhaps even sharing the screen with some actors from the Fox X-Men franchise, and leaving the role for a younger actor to tackle in the MCU. Marvel needs to create its own take on the X-Men, as the Fox movies became known for having confusing timelines, and the later releases being panned by critics and fans. A clean slate following Jackman’s Wolverine MCU debut in Deadpool 3, and possible role in Avengers: Secret Wars, is exactly what Marvel needs.
