Composer John Williams is teasing Indiana Jones 5’s Helena, her dynamic with Harrison Ford’s titular adventurer and his theme for the new character.

Ahead of the character’s franchise debut, composer John Williams teases Helena and Indy’s dynamic in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and his theme for her. Williams is returning for one last time as composer of the long-running action-adventure franchise, which also sees Harrison Ford suiting up as the iconic adventurer for his final adventurer. Ford will be joined by both new and familiar faces, one of whom will play a major part in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s story.

In a recent interview with Variety, John Williams shared some insight for development on the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny score. The five-time Oscar winner expressed his excitement for his music on the sequel, revealing he’s composed at least 1.5 hours of material. Williams also teased Helena’s dynamic with Indy in the film and the theme he composed for Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character. See what Williams shared below:

It’s certainly got to be an hour and a half of music, maybe more. But I’m quite happy with it. There’s a lot of new material. The old material works very well as a touchstone of memory, but I had great fun, and I have a theme that I’ve written for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the wonderful actress. Harrison is wonderful in it. He looks great, he moves beautifully. The best part of it for me is the writing and the interplay of dialogue between Harrison and Phoebe, like the old-style Hepburn-and-Tracy kind of bickering. It’s witty and bright and snappy, like a duet that goes on for two hours.

Who Is Waller-Bridge’s Helena? New Indiana Jones Character Explained

Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena and Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5.

Though technically revealed ahead of time, the first Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny confirmed the reports that Waller-Bridge would be starring in the film as the goddaughter of Ford’s titular character. Interestingly, however, her familial relationship is currently unknown, with co-writerand director James Mangold has teased that she is the daughter of one of Indy’s old friends who has yet to be introduced in previous films in the franchise. Theories largely point to her being related to Toby Jones’ Basil, a previously unseen ally of Indy who looks to only feature in the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s opening flashback sequence.

Mangold has also previously teased that Helena will be the “catalyst” for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s story by forcing Ford’s character to get involved in an adventure of hers that’s not going well. Between her driving the story and Williams’ tease of a snappy banter between the two characters, it does seem like Mangold and co-writers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth have looked to the past of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull‘s family buddy comedy dynamics for Helena and Indy.

Though comparisons have already been drawn to the latter, poorly received sequel for its seeming sci-fi plot, the sense of an old-fashioned Indiana Jones adventure in the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny marketing has built anticipation for the final chapter in the franchise. However, with Lucasfilm looking to expand the franchise in other directions, including an Indiana Jones TV show, it will be interesting to see if Waller-Bridge’s Helena is set up for her own adventure following Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s June 30 release.
