A trailer for It Lives Inside arrives, putting several horrifying twists on demonic possession. From Get Out producers Sean McKittrick and Edward H. Hamm Jr., the new horror movie follows a teenager named Sam who rejects her Indian culture and family in a desperate attempt to assimilate at her high school. But when a mythological demonic spirit attaches itself to her former best friend, Sam must come to terms with her heritage in order to defeat the evil entity.
Today, Neon unveiled an official trailer for It Lives Inside. Check it out below:
The trailer introduces the Indian teenagers Sam and Tamira as the latter beings acting strangely at school. After uttering the titular phrase, “It lives inside,” and breaking a mysterious mason jar, Tamira unleashes a demonic spirit called “the Pishach” which slowly attacks one’s sanity before eventually eating their soul.
Everything We Know About It Lives Inside
It Lives Inside is helmed by Bishal Dutta in his feature directorial debut with a story he co-wrote with Ashish Mehta. The cast is led by Megan Suri, known for her roles in The MisEducation of Bindu and Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, who stars alongside Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay, and Betty Gabriel. Despite sharing a title with the existing 2018 horror movie centered around demonic possession, It Lives Inside puts several twists on the subgenre with a focus on Indian culture and spirituality.
In the film, Sam simultaneously tries to find and fight her own ethnic identity, a throughline that is inspired by Dutta’s own struggle adjusting to life in the United States, which should add a uniquely personal angle to the horror flick. Based on the trailer, the result is plenty of panic-inducing imagery that is bound to put any horror enthusiast on edge. It Lives Inside‘s release date has yet to be announced, though it is expected to debut sometime this fall.
