The legendary actor Jack Black dressed like his character, Bowser, for the Super Mario Bros. movie premiere, and it fits the stage perfectly.
Jack Black fully adopted the spirit of Bowser during The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiere. The gigantic spiked turtle is the antagonist of the project, as he captures Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and sets Mario (Chris Pratt) up for a long and dangerous journey. Black gladly signed up for the role of Bowser and has been hamming it up ever since.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie enjoyed its world premiere on April 1, and Black arrived on the scene in a specially designed suit for the occasion. Check out the video below, via The Hollywood Reporter:
The suit jacket’s back is lined with Bowser’s spikes, while the arms and legs are also decorated with little red and yellow flames. It evokes Bowser’s iconic look and shows off just how much effort Black is willing to devote to becoming Bowser.
How Jack Black Has Embraced Bowser
It isn’t always the case that an actor fully embraces a role. Jack Black, however, has never been one to shy away from a particularly ridiculous casting, and his performance as Bowser stands out among the rest of the Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s voice cast. His time as Bowser hasn’t been restricted to only the big screen, either.
Black has also appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in a full-on Bowser character suit, while the rest of The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s cast looked on in surprise. Black initially refused to step on set of the show, but he did eventually run out to the set wearing the Bowser costume. After that, wearing a Bowser-inpired suit is less of a surprise and more of a natural next step for Black.
Black’s performance as Bowser also echoes his adoption of the character, as his bellowing voice perfectly suits the villainous turtle. It remains to be seen if he will continue dressing like Bowser going forward. Still, his antics are fairly likely to escalate as the marketing for The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues in the lead-up to the movie hitting theaters.
