Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Karen Gillan reveals how Nebula has grown since Thanos’ death. Nebula is one of the children of Thanos, having been taken, tortured, and molded to be one of the Mad Titan’s assassins and disciples. However, she escaped from his grasp, like her sister Gamora, and eventually worked with the Avengers to defeat him and his plans to permanently wipe out half the universe.
Screen Rant attended the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 press conference, during which Gillan explained how Nebula has grown since Thanos’ death. She revealed that Nebula is starting to “flourish” going into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Check out Gillan’s full quote below:
Karen Gillan: I think, post-Thanos being eliminated from her life, she’s starting to flourish a little bit more. She’s starting to have a lighter personality, and she’s a little more willing to show vulnerability.
How Nebula Has Changed Going Into Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
Thanos has been a shadow looming over Nebula since she was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, poisoning her relationship with Gamora and making it hard for her to trust anyone. Avengers: Endgame was an important part of Nebula’s growth, with Tony Stark, Rocket, and the surviving Avengers working with and counting on her. Nebula grew from a bitter, angry killer bent on destroying her sister to a hero working to defeat Thanos and restore the universe.
After the death of Thanos and the return of a version of Gamora, Nebula officially joined the Guardians of the Galaxy and finally found the family that she has yearned for her entire life. Her relationship with the Guardians continued to grow stronger, as shown in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Nebula has found her place in the world with people who appreciate and care about her, which has allowed her to begin building trust and opening herself up to them.
When Nebula was first introduced, she was extremely closed off, trusting no one, and traumatized from the endless torture Thanos had put her through. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 can show just how far she has come and how much she has healed as she allows herself to be vulnerable and not be weighed down by the heaviness of her trauma. Nebula has grown into a remarkable hero, learning from the sacrifices of others, including Gamora, to be someone worthy of the title Guardian of the Galaxy.
