A new fan poster for Avengers: Secret Wars sees Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine unite as they travel across the multiverse.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine unite in a new Avengers: Secret Wars fan poster. Phase Five is getting further into the Multiverse Saga as Marvel Studios continues exploring alternative realities and variants. With Phase Four having used several films and shows to tap into the multiverse, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just gotten started. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will serve as a huge cornerstone for the Multiverse Saga, with a massive focus on Kang the Conqueror. Phases Five and portions of Six will ultimately lead to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The two highly anticipated Avengers sequels will see if the Multiverse Saga can top the MCU’s Infinity Saga.
With the multiverse having endless possibilities, there are questions about what characters from other worlds may appear in the two Avengers movies. A recent Avengers: Secret Wars fan poster by the illustrator, Art of Time Travel, sees Maguire’s Spider-Man joining forces with Jackman’s Wolverine.
Maguire reprised his version of Peter Parker in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield’s iterations. Jackman is coming out of his Wolverine retirement to portray Logan in Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming Deadpool 3 installment. The film will see Wade Wilson officially join the MCU permanently.
Why Maguire’s Spider-Man & Jackman’s Wolverine Meeting Up Would Be Huge
Before there ever was an MCU, the early 2000s had limited superhero presence in live-action, especially on the big screen. Long before the MCU ever became the massive Hollywood juggernaut it’s today, the idea of shared universes was pretty much slim to none. For years, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, and Bryan Singer’s early X-Men movies, have been defined as reviving the superhero genre in cinema. After 1997’s Batman & Robin, it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Spider-Man and the X-Men forged the increasing popularity of the superhero genre outside of comics. This is evident from their successful box office performance, with 2002’s Spider-Man making around $825 million.
Since X-Men was owned by FOX while Spider-Man was at Sony, crossovers could never happen due to rights issues. Given the iconic status that Maguire and Jackman have in their respective roles, seeing them together in Avengers: Secret Wars would be a massive moment. The X-Men and Spider-Man movies became a significant part of the superhero movie culture, with each franchise spanning several sequels before being rebooted. Similar to how three generations of Spider-Man came together in 2021, this could have the same momentum in Avengers: Secret Wars.
What Chances Are Of Maguire’s Spider-Man & Jackman’s Wolverine Being In Avengers 6
The bigger question is what the chances are of Maguire’s Spider-Man and Jackman’s Wolverine appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars. Given Maguire’s positive reception from Spider-Man. No Way Home, there are some speculations about his likelihood to appear in the Avengers films. The same goes for Jackman’s Wolverine, especially after the announcement he and Reynolds made in 2022 about Deadpool 3. Marvel Studios might be waiting to see how Jackman is received in Deadpool 3 before finalizing any decisions on having him in Avengers: Secret Wars. Thanks to the multiverse concept, the door is more than open for Maguire’s Spider-Man and Jackman’s Wolverine to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
