What Horrors Await In Evil Dead Rise?

As revealed in the trailer for Evil Dead Rise, Danny’s discovery of the Book of the Dead leads to Alyssa Sutherland’s Ellie transforming into a Deadite. The struggling mother is then pitted against her sister, Beth, who has to protect her children from her at all costs. The film’s emphasis on horror is a far cry from the horror-comedy found in Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs. Evil Dead, indicating the franchise is going back to its roots with the latest installment.

Evil Dead Rise is also expected to have a more standalone presentation, with no returning cast members from previous installments anticipated. This means Beth will have to uncover the context of her new, terrifying scenario without assistance from legacy characters, such as Bruce Campell’s Ash Williams. Because Beth will be wholly unfamiliar with the Book of the Dead and Deadites, the movie will show her terrifying descent into a world of an ancient evil.

The film also promises to be a blood-soaked outing, as Evil Dead Rise hired an industrial kitchen to make over 1,700 gallons of fake blood. With the horror elements dialed up to high levels, it appears the latest installment in the Evil Dead franchise will remain true to what makes the film series work while embracing a more terrifying atmosphere. Just how scary Evil Dead Rise is remains unclear, but the clip of Danny discovering the Book of the Dead indicates it will be horrifying to watch.
