New Universal Monster Movie In Development With Scream 6 Directors

According to a new report, the Scream 6 filmmaking team known as Radio Silence will next tackle a movie about a Universal Classic Monster. Comprising directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet and producer Chad Villella, Radio Silence is the team responsible for movies like Ready or Not, 2022’s Scream, and this spring’s hit follow-up Scream 6.

A new report from THR reveals that Radio Silence’s next project after Scream 6’s box office success is an untitled monster thriller for Universal Pictures. The script for the film was written by Stephen Shields with frequent Radio Silence collaborator Guy Busick credited for revisions. While plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, the report claims that the film was at one point called Dracula’s Daughter, telling the story of a group of kidnappers who abduct several teens and come to regret it when one of them is revealed to be the eponymous vampire’s offspring.

Which Universal Movie Monster Should The Scream 6 Directors Adapt?

While it’s unclear if Radio Silence’s Universal monster movie will still be about Dracula’s daughter or if the idea has since evolved into something else, the concept would fit well with the team’s previous films. Ready or Not features a female protagonist dishing out punishment upon her murderous in-laws and the two most recent Scream movies also feature two female central heroes. All three of Radio Silence’s recent movies also feature a unique brand of dark comedy and self-awareness, something that the Dracula’s Daughter idea seems ripe for.

Of course, it’s also possible that the story has since pivoted to a new monster. If it has, Universal has a number of characters to choose from who could do with an update. Gill-man and the Wolf Man could make for interesting modern movie monsters, but a modern reimagining of The Bride of Frankenstein might also be a good fit for Radio Silence. Monsters and characters that seem off the table, however, include the Invisible Man, due to Leigh Whannel’s recent adaptation, and The Mummy, due to the failure of the 2017 remake still looming large.

Gill-Man was last featured in 1956’s The Creature Walks Among Us, making him long overdue for a modern reimagining. That being said, Radio Silence’s filmmaking sensibilities do make Dracula’s Daughter seem like a no-brainer. If the Scream 6 directors do make a movie about Dracula’s daughter, it would be the second of its kind after the 1936 film of the same name. Whichever Universal Classic Monster Radio Silence takes on, the team’s previous projects suggest the monster is in very good hands.
