Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne from The Batman gets a Batman: The Animated Series-style fan poster as it pays homage to the late Kevin Conroy. The Dark Knight made his way back to the big screen in 2022 through Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which marked the latest cinematic reboot of the DC icon. While not a traditional origin story, Pattinson’s DC movie explored Bruce in his second year as the infamous Gotham City vigilante. Inspired by a noir detective story, The Batman exists outside the DC Universe, allowing Reeves to create his own continuity and tone for the franchise.

While a new Batman was given a fresh start, 2022 also saw the loss of a beloved Caped Crusader as the iconic voice actor Conroy passed away at the age of 66. The beloved Batman star died after a short battle against cancer. The world is still mourning the loss of the famous voice actor who portrayed the Dark Knight in several Batman and DC products, including the critically acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series. Dustin Lee Massey, a talented fan artist, recently shared new artwork of Pattinson’s Batman in a Batman: The Animated Series-inspired poster. The artwork, which can be seen below, also serves as a tribute to Conroy:

What We Know About Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 & Beyond

Jeffrey Wright as Gordon and Robert Pattinson as Batman

Following The Batman‘s box office and critical success, Warner Bros. Discovery is not stopping their collaboration with Reeves anytime soon. The Batman 2 is in development, with Pattinson set to return for the highly anticipated sequel. Reeves is currently writing the screenplay and will direct the new installment. No release date has been set yet, but reports have stated that The Batman 2 is not expected to come out until at least 2025. That means they would likely start filming The Batman 2 in late 2023 or at the start of 2024 in order to get ready for a potential 2025 release date.

While no other cast members have been tapped yet for The Batman 2, news will likely begin to come out about that once the script is ready and the film has a targeted release date. At the same time, Reeves is only getting started with building out The Batman universe both on the big and small screen. Despite HBO Max and Discovery+ preparing to merge into one streaming service in spring 2023, The Batman franchise will co-exist on the platform. HBO Max has thus far given a series pick-up to The Penguin TV show, which has Colin Ferrell reprising his role of Oswald Cobblepot. Reeves also has an Arkham Asylum series in development and recently tapped Antonio Campos as the new showrunner.

Recently, there were conflicting reports about DC Studios considering whether to integrate Pattinson’s Batman into the new DCU being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, it didn’t take long for one of the DC Studios co-CEOs to debunk the news, as only mere hours after the report emerged, Gunn confirmed that there are no plans for Pattinson’s take on the Dark Knight from The Batman to be brought into the larger DCU. Pattinson’s Batman will continue to exist in his own universe, but even if it’s disconnected from the DCU, Reeves is obviously planning to make this a huge cinematic world with other relevant players from Bruce’s lore. As 2022 closes out, 2023 will hopefully come with some news about The Batman franchise sooner rather than later.
