Screen Rant presents an exclusive first-look image from upcoming thriller film Plane, featuring Mike Colter & Gerard Butler and premiering January 13.
Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive new image from the upcoming feature film, Plane. Gerard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen) returns to the genre that made him a star in this action thriller about an airplane downed on a remote island in the Philippines. He’ll have to brave the jungle on a rescue mission alongside Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and with remote help from Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), if he wants to get his passengers out alive. Plane will be released by Lionsgate in theaters on January 13, 2023.
Brodie Torrance (Butler) is a pilot of a commercial airline whose world gets turned upside down when a lightning strike cripples his plane. Forced to make an emergency landing, he and his fellow survivors find themselves on a deserted island in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the crash is only the beginning of his problems as the bulk of his passengers are subsequently taken hostage by dangerous rebels. Torrance is forced to turn to Louis Gaspare (Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported on the flight by US government agents, for help. The two must work together and overcome their differences in order to rescue the passengers and keep everyone alive.
What To Expect From Plane
As part of Screen Rant‘s Winter Movie Preview, the exclusive first-look image from Plane shows how harrowing things are for Torrance and Gaspare. They’re in what appears to be an abandoned building, with roots hanging from ceilings and on walls, setting the tone for a place left behind by the civilized world. Both men are bruised and battered, with Torrance sporting a rather mean-looking shiner to his left eye. They’ve already been through a lot, and now they are hot in pursuit of the rebels who kidnap their compatriots. It remains to be seen if this is just the beginning of their harrowing journey, and whether they’ll be able to successfully free most of the innocent hostages before they meet a deadly end.
In the trailer for Plane, it at first appears as though this will be a fairly routine flight for Pilot Brodie Torrance, albeit with a surprise passenger on board in the form of Louis Gaspare, a fugitive being extradited to the United States for a murder committed 15 years previously. However, when the plane is struck by lightning, and they’re forced to make an emergency landing on a remote island, the crew and passengers quickly realize that the crash was only the beginning of their problems. They soon discover that the island is peopled with rebels so dangerous the Filipino government has all but abandoned it. When the bulk of the remaining passengers are taken hostage by the rebels, Torrance and Gaspare realize they must team up to rescue their fellow survivors, and save themselves. They must survive together, or die alone.
Plane promises a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat experience, with thrills and surprises in every frame. It’s only the first film of what promises to be an exciting lineup for Lionsgate for 2023. Along with Plane, other action-adventure titles to be released in 2023 include a 4th entry into the John Wick franchise, along with the long-awaited prequel to The Hunger Games series, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Plane will release in theaters starting on January 13.
