Marvel Studios releases a brand-new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer, showing the heroes working to keep Kang caged in the Quantum Realm.
A new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer shows the heroes desperate to keep Kang caged in the Quantum Realm as the villain searches for a way to break free. Marvel Studios is kicking off 2023 on the big screen with Peyton Reed’s threequel, which also happens to be the first project from Phase 5. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will continue the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s exploration of the Quantum Realm after it played an important role in Avengers: Endgame‘s time heist. While it has been helpful before, the upcoming film will lay out how dangerous it could be with Kang the Conqueror trapped in it.
Now, Marvel Entertainment shares a new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer, which shows the heroes desperate to keep Kang from breaking free.
Clocking in at just a minute, this shorter promotional clip follows the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s second trailer, which offers a clearer look at Kang the Conqueror. It also includes more information about what to expect from the film, including the villain’s attempt to exploit Scott Lang’s deepest desire – regaining the time he lost during the Snap.
How Quantumania Is Different From Previous Ant-Man Films
Known for its lightheartedness, the Ant-Man franchise has mainly functioned as a palate cleanser for the MCU. The original movie followed the rather dark Avengers: Age of Ultron, while Ant-Man and the Wasp was released after Avengers: Infinity War. It’s clear, however, that Marvel Studios is going a different route for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which goes bigger in terms of scope as Team Ant-Man fights Kang, the big bad of the Multiverse Saga. Aside from that, the setting is also different, as the threequel primarily takes place in the Quantum Realm.
Arguably the biggest and most important difference between Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and its prequels is its tone. Reed’s next MCU film is clearly more serious than its predecessors; quips are at a minimum, and it feels like Ant-Man could really die while fighting the Conqueror. Regardless if Scott Lang really meets his end in the threequel, it’s an effective way to establish Kang as a formidable villain, especially as he moves on to fight Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Changing things up for the Ant-Man franchise is a great way to kick off Phase 5. Marvel Studios has taken a lot of risks in Phase 4, and while not everything paid off, it was a good indication the MCU is now willing to try something new to keep fans engaged in the long run. Making Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania more serious is another step in this direction. Finally, laying out Kang the Conqueror’s motivation as early as now would effectively save Marvel from having to cram his origin story in his own film, the same way they did with Thanos.
