Queen Poppy & Branch Return For Boy Band Adventure

[ad_1]

The first trailer for Trolls Band Together shows Queen Poppy and Branch returning for another music adventure with a boy band twist. The previous installment, Trolls World Tour, was released simultaneously in theaters and on video-on-demand during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading AMC Theaters to stop distributing Universal releases until the conflict was resolved in 2020. The film performed poorly at the box office, but its VOD sales skyrocketed during the pandemic, leading to the announcement of a third film in 2021.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Trolls Band Together, confirming that the film will release in theaters on November 17. Check out the full trailer below:

The trailer gives a first look at the movie’s plot of the movie, which will see Branch (Justin Timberlake) and Poppy (Anna Kendrick) team up once again to save Floyd (Troye Sivan), from the movie’s main villain, Velvet (Amy Schumer) and Veneer (Andrew Rannells). Check out the full plot synopsis below:

After two films of true friendship and relentless flirting, Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) are now officially, finally, a couple (#broppy)! As they grow closer, Poppy discovers that Branch has a secret past. He was once part of her favorite boyband phenomenon, BroZone, with his four brothers: Floyd (Golden Globe nominated electropop sensation Troye Sivan), John Dory (Eric André; Sing 2), Spruce (Grammy winner Daveed Diggs; Hamilton) and Clay (Grammy winner Kid Cudi; Don’t Look Up). BroZone disbanded when Branch was still a baby, as did the family, and Branch hasn’t seen his brothers since. But when Branch’s bro Floyd is kidnapped for his musical talents by a pair of nefarious pop-star villains—Velvet (Emmy winner Amy Schumer; Trainwreck) and Veneer (Grammy winner and Tony nominee Andrew Rannells; The Book of Mormon)—Branch and Poppy embark on a harrowing and emotional journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd from a fate even worse than pop-culture obscurity.

Everything We Know About Trolls Band Together

Aside from Timberlake and Kendrick, some original cast members are slated to return, including Zooey Deschanel and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Bridget and King Gristle Jr. respectively. Additionally, Aino Jawo, Caroline Hjelt, Anderson Paak, Ron Funches, Kunal Nayyar, and Kenan Thompson have also returned to reprise their respective roles from the previous two films. Joining the cast this time are an impressive array of established stars, including Amy Schumer, Troye Sivan, Andrew Rannells, Daveed Diggs, Camila Cabello, Eric Andre, Zosia Mamet, RuPaul Charles, and Kid Cudi.

Trolls World Tour helmer Walt Dohrn has returned to direct the film, which will be co-directed by Tim Heitz. Gina Shay, who produced the first two films, is also returning to produce Trolls Band Together. No current details are known on who wrote the threequel’s screenplay; more details are likely to be known as the movie approaches its November 17 release date.

Trolls Band Together will have fierce competition in a stacked November, with Dune: Part Two, The Marvels, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes, and Disney’s Wish all releasing around the same period. Despite different target audiences, there is a stiff competition during Thanksgiving weekend between Disney and Dreamworks. Last year, Dreamworks ultimately won the Holiday battle with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish on Christmas as Disney’s Strange World bombed when it opened. Time will tell how big of a hit Trolls Band Together will be with its twisty boy band angle.
