Rachel Zegler wants to return to the DC Universe as her Shazam! Fury of the Gods character Anthea. Shazam! Fury of the Gods picks up a few years after the Shazamily defeated Dr. Sivana. Although they have continued to fight crime, their success rate is less than ideal. But when a new threat appears, the Daughter of Atlas, the Shazamily will need to work together to save the world.
Zegler plays Anthea, the youngest of the three Daughters of Atlas, who forms a bond with Freddie. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Zegler expresses an interest in reprising her role as Anthea, one of the Daughters of Atlas, in the future. She discusses the possibility of exploring the origins of the Daughters of Atlas’ mythology in a prequel.
We’re not sure what’s going to happen in the future of the DCU, but there is a show coming out called Paradise Lost, which hopefully touches on the Greek mythology of the DC Universe. Would you guys like your characters to be somehow a part of that show at all?
Rachel Zegler: I would love to just come back in any capacity. It’d be fun. We got to wear such cool costumes and feel really cool all the time. I would just love to come back in any capacity. But if it’s exploring the origins of our mythology, I think that’s really interesting, but whatever Peter Safran says. Whatever Dad tells us to do.
How The Daughters Of Atlas Could Fit Into The DCU
Shazam! Fury of the Gods introduced three original characters, with the Daughters of Atlas exploring the origins of Shazam’s powers and how it impacted the realm of the Gods. The Daughters of Atlas are tied to DC’s Greek pantheon, which is an especially prominent corner, especially for one of DC’s most powerful heroines. The Daughters of Atlas could perfectly tie into Wonder Woman’s story, especially after they interacted with humanity.
Wonder Woman’s future in the DC Universe is unclear; however, she will likely have an important place given the Wonder Woman prequel series Paradise Lost that James Gunn announced. Set centuries before her birth, Paradise Lost will be a Game of Thrones-style series that takes place on Themyscira. This could tie into not only the politics of the island but the Gods as well, which could be the perfect way to further explore not only Wonder Woman’s origins but the Daughters of Atlas as well.
Shazam’s future in the DC Universe is uncertain, especially after Shazam! Fury of the Gods had a disappointing opening weekend, but these characters still have a lot of stories to potentially tell. Anthea could fit perfectly into the future of the DC Universe, either in Paradise Lost or in a project set after Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Gunn has titled Chapter One of the DC Universe “Gods and Monsters,” and with Anthea being a Goddess walking among humanity by the end of the movie, she could be a key player moving forward.
