A new holiday-themed poster for Scream VI is full of Easter eggs that hint at major details from the plot of the upcoming slasher sequel.

A new poster for Scream VI is jam-packed with clues hinting at major plot details from the upcoming film. The project, which is a direct follow-up to Scream 2022 features many of the film’s surviving characters including Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) as well as Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmine Savoy Brown), is due in theaters on March 10, 2023. The film will transplant the cast from the sleepy town of Woodsboro, California to New York City, where they will once again encounter a killer dressed as Ghostface and attempt to defend themselves and their new friends.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On Christmas Day, the official Scream Twitter account shared a holiday-themed poster highlighting Scream 6‘s New York City setting. The poster shows a view of Times Square, with most of the billboards replaced with different angles on the Ghostface mask. However, some of the billboards have messages including the film’s tagline “New York New Rules.” In addition to the more obvious poster-related captions, the billboards appear to be packed with clues to the film’s plot, with some delivering messages saying “Stab IX,” “Wrongly Accused: The Musical,” “Blackmore University,” and so on. What The Clues on This Poster Might Reveal About Scream 6

The clues all appear to be pointing fans in the direction of some of the major movements of the new film’s plot. Taken all together, it seems that this film is seeking to follow much of the path set by the original sequel Scream 2 in 1997. This could potentially include any or all of the characters going to college, with the fictional Blackmore University replacing Scream 2‘s Windsor College (set photos have revealed that the film transformed Montreal’s McGill University into Blackmore, lending credence to this assumption).

Another element that seems directly inspired by Scream 2 is the billboard that reads “Wrongly Accused: The Musical.” A huge Scream storyline in that film followed Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber), the man who Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) wrongly accused of her mother’s murder and who was exonerated by the end of the film, going on to host his own talk show before his death in the opening sequence of Scream 3. Whether this billboard is meant to specifically reference the Cotton storyline or a new wrongly accused character remains unknown. However, it could be hinting that public opinion will turn against our new survivors, with conspiracy theorists assuming that they committed the Scream 2022 murders themselves, which is what brings another Ghostface breathing down their necks.

Perhaps the most enticing element of this new Scream VI poster is the big central billboard advertising Stab IX. The last fans had heard of the in-universe film series inspired by the Ghostface killings was the fact that Stab 8 was a reboot titled Stab that angered fans, prompting the new Ghostface to try to inspire a better sequel by committing more murders. While the ending of Scream 2022 followed the survivors’ attempts to prevent this from happening, it seems that the producers of the Stab franchise have other ideas, which will definitely spell out bad news for everyone involved.
