Spider-Man fans are calling out the missing Spider-Verse character who needs to appear among Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s many Variants.
Spider-Man fans are calling out the missing Spider-Verse character that needs to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Miles Morales’ story will continue in 2023 when Sony Pictures releases Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Following the massive success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the animated franchise is getting deeper into the multiverse concept. While the story centers on Miles’ latest adventure as the web-slinger of his world, he will also come across new and old allies. The sequel is upping the stakes as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is bringing in even more versions of the web-crawler. Initially slated to hit theaters this fall, Sony delayed the animated sequel, allowing more work to be done on the film.
After releasing a new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer that revealed a lot more Spider-Man variants, fans are still predicting who else may pop up in the film. Given the massive scope of the Spider-Verse in the comics, there are dozens of new Variants who could show up. In a discussion post on Reddit, however, there’s one particular Spider-Man variant who fans are really hoping to see – Supaidaman, aka Japanese Spider-Man from the 1970s live-action show. Previously, Across the Spider-Verse producer Phil Lord hinted at an appearance from Japanese Spider-Man, and clearly, fans still want it to happen. Check out their conversation below:
All The Spider-Man Characters Already Confirmed For Across The Spider-Verse
Aside from Miles himself, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see the arrival of new and old Variants. Returning from the first film are Spider-Gwen and Peter B. Parker, who became two of Miles’ new allies when he was still discovering his abilities. Miguel O’Hara, a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099, will also have a significant role in the sequel after debuting in the post-credits scene from the first installment. The new villain that will appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is Jonathan Ohne, better known as The Spot, making this his first movie appearance.
But with the arrival of a new antagonist comes multiple Spider-Man variants, many of whom were spotted in the latest trailer. Jessica Drew and Hobart Brown, a.k.a. Spider-Woman and Spider-Punk, respectively, will have central roles in the sequel. The Spider-Man of the Insomniac video game franchise was also seen throughout the latest footage. Other cameos that have been confirmed include the Superior Spider-Man, Werewolf Spider-Man, and Spider-Monkey. The short-lived iteration from Spider-Man Unlimited is also getting included in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Pavitr Prabhakar, a.k.a. the Indian Spider-Man, has been confirmed via concept art. There will also be some type o appearance of The Spectacular Spider-Man, which can be seen in the latest poster.
To say that the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse animation team has gone beyond expectations is definitely an understatement. While most of the Variants showing up will likely only be cameos, it goes to show how much they are taking advantage of the Spider-Verse mythology. Given that a female Spider-Verse spinoff is in the works, it wouldn’t be shocking if additional offshoot projects were made after the new sequel. Depending on how any of them are received, it would be fun to see spinoffs for the new Variants to help expand the franchise. With ambitions to initially make the sequel as big as Avengers: Endgame, time will tell what’s in store for beyond Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
