Serie A club likely to demand mammoth €150m transfer fee to part ways with PSG summer target

[ad_1]

Serie A leaders Napoli could demand a massive €150 million to let Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) target Victor Osimhen leave in the summer.

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Le10Sport), Napoli do not need to lighten their wage bill this summer, making any potential transfer unnecessary. Furthermore, Napoli have plans to extend the sharpshooter’s contract. That means Napoli will only allow Osimhen to leave if an unimaginable offer comes along.

It has been claimed that an offer in the region of €150-160 million could persuade the Serie A giants to part ways with the Nigerian. As per Le10Sport, the Parisians want to build their project around Kylian Mbappe, meaning Lionel Messi and Neymar are likely to depart in the summer. If that’s the case, they’re likely to bring in a striker to play alongside Mbappe, and Osimhen has emerged as a priority.

PSG sporting director Luis Campos, who recruited Osimhen at Lille in 2019, is on the case. Campos reportedly maintains a good relationship with Napoli, which helped him bring in Fabian Ruiz last summer. However, sweet talk is unlikely to crack the Osimhen deal. The Partenopei are solely interested in money, meaning only the highest bidder would prevail.

Osimhen has been firing on all cylinders for Napoli this season, bagging 25 goals and five assists in 29 games this season across competitions. His deal with Napoli expires in June 2025.

PSG fans boo Lionel Messi ahead of Ligue 1 defeat to Lyon

Home fans booed seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi when his name was announced in the line-up to face Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Sunday (02 April). It was the second time the Argentina icon found himself at the receiving end of loud jeers in Paris. He was also booed in the 2-0 defeat to Rennes last month.

PSG fans’ frustration grew as their team failed to make things happen against Lyon, succumbing to a narrow 1-0 defeat. It marked their second consecutive Ligue 1 defeat at the Parc des Princes.

Parisians fans’ disdain towards Messi has been audible since he failed to produce anything of note in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich. Christophe Galtier’s side fell to a 3-0 aggregate defeat to endure their second straight Round of 16 exit.

Messi’s PSG contract expires in June, but he’s yet to agree an extension. Furthermore, he’s reportedly in talks with Barcelona over a possible return to the Camp Nou in the summer.

PSG attacker Lionel Messi ranks just behind Manchester City superstar in key playmaking stat

[ad_1]

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi is only behind Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne with respect to big chances created in league play this season.

According to WhoScored, De Bruyne has created 24 big chances in the Premier League this term in 25 appearances. Messi, meanwhile, has created 22 big chances in 22 Ligue 1 matches.

Both players lead their respective leagues’ assist charts. De Bruyne has laid out 12 assists, while Messi has assisted 13 times. The PSG attacker is averaging 2.7 key passes per game in the league, while the Manchester City man is ahead at 3.2 key passes per game.

Lionel Messi is, however, clear of Kevin De Bruyne by some distance in the goalscoring charts. La Pulga has scored 13 times in Ligue 1 this term, while the Belgian has only found the back of the net four times in the league.

It’s worth noting that Messi is the only non-Premier League player on the aforementioned list released by WhoScored. De Bruyne and the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner are followed by Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

PSG’s Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne endured contrasting nights in the UEFA Champions League this month

Lionel Messi’s PSG and Kevin De Bruyne’s Manchester City are viewed as two of the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League every season. The two players are undeniably key to their sides’ hopes of lifting the famous trophy for the first time ever.

While Messi couldn’t inspire PSG to a win in their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich, De Bruyne starred as City dismantled Leipzig.

La Pulga and the Parisians traveled to Germany for the second leg of the contest last week, needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit. He recorded three key passes, but got just one shot on target, completed only two of his six dribble attempts and lost the ball 19 times as his side fell to a 2-0 defeat.

It meant PSG exited the Champions League in the Round of 16 stage for the fifth time in seven years and the second successive time since signing Lionel Messi.

Manchester City, meanwhile, played the second leg of their Round of 16 tie on Tuesday (March 14), with the scores level at 1-1 after the first leg in Germany. Erling Haaland starred with five goals as City won 7-0, but De Bruyne ran the show from midfield.

Apart from his incredible strike in second-half stoppage time, the Belgian laid out four key passes, including two big chances created. He completed two of his four dribble attempts, hit the woodwork once (with Haaland scoring the rebound) and won four of his seven duels.

Ben, CEO of iDesign Gold, spoke to The Sun regarding the cases and revealed that Messi was their loyal customer. The legendary footballer wanted to gift everyone in the squad and did not want to hand out watches like many others have done in the past. He said:

“Lionel is not only the Goat but he’s one of IDESIGN GOLD’s most loyal customers and got in touch with us a couple of months after the World Cup final. He said he wanted a special gift for all the players and staff to celebrate the amazing win but didn’t want the usual gift of watches. So, I suggested gold iPhones inscribed with their names and he loved the idea.”

Lionel Messi on winning FIFA The Best Men’s Player award

Lionel Messi won the FIFA The Best Men’s Player award on Monday after he was voted the player of the year by captains and coaches of all nations under FIFA.

Speaking at the ceremony, Messi said:

“It’s a pleasure to be here again, with Benzema, with Kylian, as both of them had a great year. This is an honour for me. I want to thank my colleagues, including my manager [Lionel] Scaloni, and we’re here representing them all as we would not be here without them. It recognises the role they played in what we achieved.”

He added:

“It’s been a crazy year for me. I have achieved my dream, after so much fighting, and so much determination to win it. Winning the World Cup is the most beautiful thing that has happened in my career. It’s a dream for many, but few can win it. Will Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe be fit to play in the PSG vs Bayern Munich UCL clash?

[ad_1]

Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are back in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) training ahead of their Round of 16 match against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League. The duo were joined by Marco Verratti, who also missed the 3-1 defeat to AS Monaco on Saturday.

PSG fans have been sweating on the fitness of their star players ahead of the Champions League clash. But they have some positive news to calm their nerves.

Galtier has hinted that Messi will be back for the match against Bayern Munich. The PSG manager added that Mbappe will need three weeks to recover from his thigh injury.

Messi, on the other hand, had muscle fatigue and rested over the weekend. Galtier expected him back in training on Monday, and the Argentine has reported as planned.

Speaking to the media last week, Galtier said:

“Regarding Kylian, the communication has been made. We spoke of a three-week unavailability. Kylian is undergoing treatment. Leo has felt muscle fatigue, he will resume training on Monday. He is not uncertain for Bayern.”

PSG might not risk Kylian Mbappe against Bayern Munich

The PSG manager was aware of of the importance of the match against the Bundesliga side but insisted that the player’s health was more important than the result.

Mbappe might have to sit out the first leg despite participating in full training on Monday, as Galtier said:

“The player’s health comes first. I will be very vigilant about the player’s health, especially as the season is still long.”

Verratti missed the match against AS Monaco with a virus but is back. There has been no update on Achraf Hakimi, who also missed the Ligue 1 match last weekend.

PSG faced Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League final and were beaten 1-0. Kingsley Coman, who played for the French side before moving to Juventus and then settling at the German side, scored the match’s only goal.

Saudi Arabia launches ‘beyond imagination’ PSG match ticket priced at 2 million Riyals

[ad_1]

Saudi Arabian organisers have launched a special ticket for an upcoming game that could see long-time rivals, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, square off in the Middle East.

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will take on a star-studded team featuring players from Al Nassr and Al Hilal, in a friendly in Riyadh on January 19. Ronaldo, who was presented as an Al Nassr player earlier this month, could make his first appearance on Saudi soil in that game.

The Portuguese superstar, who is expected to earn $200 million per year during his two-and-a-half-year stay (till June 2025) in Saudi Arabia, is currently serving a carry-over suspension from the FA.

Watching Messi, Mbappe, Neymar and Ronaldo together on the pitch is a privilege in itself. However, the organisers of the charity game are going a step further to make it a memorable night for deep-pocketed fans.

As noted by UD Almeria owner and chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), Turki Al-Sheikh, a special ‘Beyond Imagination’ ticket has been put on sale, which could make the night unforgettable for fans.

Here are the details about Beyond Imagination ticket bidding…It will end on the 17th of Jan at 11:30 PM KSA time. The money will go to charity (Ehsan) @EhsanSA. So far we reached 700 thousand Euros.

According to the Khaleej Times, the special ticket would allow its holder to attend the opening ceremony, sit next to Al-Sheikh and meet Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe. Additionally, they will be allowed to enter both dressing rooms, participate in the crowning ceremony, attend the gala lunch and click a picture with the winning team.

The bidding for the ticket started at 250,000 euros (985,000 riyals) but has now climbed to 700,000 euros (2.7 million riyals) after receiving 1.5 million requests. The bidding will remain open till January 17, 11:30 pm KSA time. The proceedings will go to a charity foundation called Ehsan.

Ronaldo’s Al Nassr coach Rudi Garcia unhappy with timing of friendly clash with Messi’s PSG

Al Nassr boss Rudi Garcia has questioned the timing of the upcoming friendly against PSG. Garcia admitted that the organisers should have been more thoughtful with the placement of the fixture, as Al Nassr have a Saudi Pro League game three days after the friendly.

“As the coach of Al Nassr, I cannot be happy with this match. For development, to see PSG, to see the great Parisian players, indeed it is a good thing. But we have a championship game three days later,” Garcia said (via ESPN]).

He continued:

“In terms of scheduling, it could have been better thought out. But it’s not a big deal … We are in the lead; we are happy. It is a difficult championship to win, but we intend to do it.”

Ronaldo, who is currently serving a domestic suspension for knocking a phone out of an Everton fan’s hand in April 2022, could play in the friendly, Garcia confirmed.

“It (his debut) won’t be with the Al Nassr jersey. It will be a mix between Al Hilal and Al Nassr.”

Messi’s arch-rival is set to miss the clash against Al Shabab on Saturday (January 14) but will be available for selection against Ettifaq eight days later.€

“I will be eternally grateful for that talk”

[ad_1]

Barbie, an Argentine mom, has shared how Lionel Messi helped her then-8-year-old son, Tommy, during a tough phase in his life.

Tommy was diagnosed with Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) when he was eight, the same condition Messi had in his childhood. Barbie helped Tommy by drawing parallels to Messi, hoping that it would give him strength.

***THREAD*** I translated this English speakers. An Argentinian mother tells why she will always be grateful to Lionel Messi. Beautiful story not known until yesterday about Messi (and Tommy)

Her story, which was originally shared on Instagram and has been translated by Twitter user @JimenaJuani, started:

“I bought a poster of Messi; we put it on his bedroom wall. We told him that he would do the same treatment as his idol. And for him to see that it was not an impediment for Lionel to fulfill his dreams. I knew that this would do my son good.”

Barbie got in touch with Messi’s father Jorge in 2010, and the then-Barcelona forward was happy to meet Tommy.

Messi, who had to take growth hormones for a prolonged period, discussed the GHD treatment at length, telling Tommy whether or not it hurt, and where the injections went. He also reassured young Tommy that everything would be fine.

“Messi told him that he sometimes used to be teased as “pulga”, that sometimes he wanted to be a giant. But being small had its advantages, (you could be) more skilful and quick,” Barbie added.

Messi, who was diagnosed with GHD when he was 11, further told Tommy:

“At your age, I was the same size as you.”

Tommy has grown up healthy and is now the same height as his idol Lionel Messi. His grateful mother, Barbie, concluded saying that she would be eternally grateful to the superstar for having that conversation with her son:

“For all this, I prayed that on Sunday Messi would win the World Cup. I will be eternally grateful for that talk with my son. Thank you Messi, you are giant. Barbie, Tommy’s mom,” her post concluded.

“We did it on a case-by-case basis” – Galtier confirms when Lionel Messi will return to action for PSG

[ad_1]

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Christophe Galtier has revealed Lionel Messi will rejoin the team in the new year. The Argentine is currently in his home country following the FIFA World Cup win and is expected to return after the Ligue1 side face Lens at the start of 2023.

Messi was in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup for the last few weeks, where he won the tournament by beating club teammate Kylian Mbappe’s France in the final. While the Frenchman has returned to training, the former Barcelona star is celebrating the win in his home country.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of PSG’s clash with Strasbourg on Wednesday, Galtier confirmed that Messi has another 10-11 days before he rejoins the side.

He said:

“We did it on a case-by-case basis, there are the players eliminated very early who had ten or twelve days and who all returned on time. Those who went further like Hakimi who made a very big run I’m thinking of Kylian (Mbappé) and Leo (Messi). Hakimi and Kylian wanted to come back quickly with us in the group.”

Continuing to talk about the Argentine, he admitted that the forward was given time off until January 1st, 2023. He said:

“Leo (Lionel Messi) due to his geographical location and his victory, he will join us at the start year after ten, eleven days. We will reintegrate it as we go. The idea was that everyone stays in touch during the World Cup. Due to his victory, the celebrations in Argentina, we decided that he was going to cut until January 1. He will join us on the 2nd or 3rd to resume competition with us.”

Lionel Messi’s teammate Kylian Mbappe returns to PSG training

Lionel Messi’s club teammate Kylian Mbappe was keen to put the FIFA World Cup heartbreak behind him and rejoined PSG training less than 72 hours after the final, in which he scored a hat-trick before seeing his side lose 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Speaking about Mbappe, Christophe Galtier said:

“I’m very happy to see him. Kylian had a great World Cup. This return is also a strong signal to everyone. He wanted to get back in contact with the group very quickly and prepare for the deadlines which are coming up very quickly. We are very, very happy to see him.”

Lionel Messi has scored seven goals in the Ligue1 this season – one more than he managed last season, while Mbappe is the top scorer for PSG with 12.

PSG Transfer News Roundup: Lionel Messi’s return difficult, says Barcelona president; Chelsea contacted Neymar in Qatar, and more

[ad_1]

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are working to upgrade their squad when the transfer window reopens in January. Christophe Galtier has his eyes on the UEFA Champions League this season and is expected to make necessary changes to his squad this winter.

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that Lionel Messi’s return to the Camp Nou is complicated. Elsewhere, Chelsea have established contact with Neymar’s camp in Qatar.

On that note, here’s a look at the key PSG transfer stories as on December 22, 2022:

Lionel Messi’s Barcelona return complicated, says club president

Lionel Messi is yet to make a decision on his future.
Lionel Messi is yet to make a decision on his future.

Joan Laporta has admitted it will be difficult for Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona. The Argentinean’s contract with PSG runs out at the end of the season. The Blaugrana are linked with a Bosman move for the 35-year-old, but the player is expected to extend his stay in Paris.

Messi has enjoyed a brilliant season with the Parisians so far. The Argentinean has registered 12 goals and 14 assists from 19 games across competitions this season. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner also enjoyed a fruitful time at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, lifting the coveted trophy to complete his major trophy collection across club and international football.

Barça president Laporta: “Messi is the best player of all time. He’s Barça fan, his heart beats for Barça… so the links are normal”, tells BarçaTV 🔵🔴 #FCB“Will Messi return? He’s PSG player. We’d love to have Leo back here one day — but we will see”.

Speaking recently, Laporta said that everyone associated with the Blaugrana are pleased with Messi’s World Cup triumph.

“On the subject of Messi, we can’t generate expectations. Messi is a PSG player and has a contract with them. He has won the World Cup, and the Cules have been very happy. What I don’t want to do is generate expectations that at the moment are very difficult,” said Laporta.

He added:

“For us, he is the best player of all time; we have had him here, and I am convinced that in his heart he is a Cule and will always be linked to Barca. Whether or not he comes back as a player, at the moment, he is at PSG, and we would very much love him to come back one day, but we’ll see.”

Messi registered seven goals and three assists in seven games at the World Cup and won his second Golden Ball.

Chelsea contacted Neymar’s entourage in Qatar, according to Si & Dan Talk Chelsea via Chelsea News.

The Brazilian has previously been linked with the Blues, but a move hasn’t materialised so far. The 30-year-old has been on blistering form with PSG this season and has emerged as one of Galtier’s most important players.

Neymar failed to leave a mark at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but his stock remains high.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly remains eager to make a statement signing at Stamford Bridge and has set his sights on the Brazilian. The 30-year-old is tied with the Parisians till 2025, so prising him away from the Parc des Princes won’t be easy.

Neymar has appeared 20 times for the Ligue 1 champions this season across competitions, registering 15 goals and 12 assists.

The French forward endured heartbreak in the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, with Les Bleus coming up short against Argentina in a shootout. The 24-year-old took just two days off to meet up with his club teammates on Wednesday.

Speaking to PSG TV, Galtier said that Mbappe has made a strong statement by returning early to training.

“I’m very happy to see Kylian; he had a fantastic World Cup. It’s also a strong signal for everyone that a player who was disappointed not to win the biggest trophy even though he was top scorer in the competition, came back quickly with the squad and ready for competition. Of course, we’re very happy he’s back,” said Galtier.

Mbappe has already registered 19 goals and five assists in 20 games across competitions this season for the Parisians.

Lionel Messi agrees deal in principle to extend PSG contract

[ad_1]

Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed on a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to extend his contract till 2024.

The Argentine icon is celebrating winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina but appears to have something else to celebrate too. According to Le Parisien, Messi, 35, has agreed a deal in principle to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes till 2024.

Speculation has grown over the legendary forward’s future amid reports of a potential move to MLS side Inter Miami or a return to Barcelona. PSG have always been eager for Messi to remain in the French capital beyond his current contract, which expires in the summer.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports recently that he’s confident Messi would extend his deal with PSG:

“Definitely (Messi wants to stay) He’s very happy, you can see that with the national team. He performed fantastic this season for us; he’s scored a lot of goals and assists for the national team and for the club.”

Al-Khelaifi continued:

“So what we agreed together – that after the World Cup, sit down together. But both sides – our side of the club and him – are very happy, so we will talk after the World Cup.”

Messi joined the Parisians after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

He has scored 23 goals and provided 29 assists in 53 appearances across competitions during his time at the Parc des Princes. That includes 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 appearances across competitions this season.

The former Blaugrana attacker had a hugely successful FIFA World Cup campaign with Argentina. Messi not only lifted the illustrious trophy but also won the Golden Ball, bagging seven goals and three assists in seven games.

Lionel Messi is best player in the world, ahead of PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe, says Sergio Aguero

Aguero has showered praise on PSG duo Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe following their impressive FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar.

Messi finished as the Golden Ball winner, while Mbappe claimed the Golden Boot by scoring eight goals and providing two assists in seven games.

Many suggest that Mbappe is the best player in the world, but Aguero reckons Messi’s World Cup triumph gives the Argentine that honour. He said:

“What to say about Kylian? He has scored three goals in a World Cup final and has converted the penalty in the decisive instance. And he has had a great World Cup too.”

Aguero added:

“But today Leo has the sceptre. Mbappe’s only 23 years old and is already world champion and runner-up. Surely he will go for more because he is a very talented and very competitive player.”

Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi scored five goals between them in the World Cup final. Both players also scored in the ensuing shootout, which La Albiceleste won 4-2 after a pulsating 3-3 draw in extra time.

“I’ve never seen a player”

[ad_1]

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has tipped his hat to Lionel Messi after the former Barcelona superstar won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Lionel Messi finally put an end to his career-long wait to win the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, December 18. He helped Argentina beat France on penalties in the final to get his hands on the trophy.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar grabbed a brace for La Albiceleste on the evening, while Angel Di Maria netted a goal as well. However, a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe saw the game end 3-3 and go into penalties.

Argentina eventually earned a victory over Les Bleus after Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni missed their spot-kicks. It brought an end to their 36-year-old long wait to win the FIFA World Cup.

Football fans, pundits, and even athletes across the globe have since heaped praise on Messi as well as Argentina. Kroos has now become the latest personality to congratulate the 35-year-old.

The Real Madrid midfielder explained that he has not seen a player as consistent as Messi. He then pointed out that he rates the Argentinean highly despite his ties to Barcelona and PSG. Kroos said [via @MadridXtra on Twitter]:

“I’ve never seen a player play as consistently as Messi and he played for clubs I don’t like so it proves I mean it.”

How did Lionel Messi fare for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

The likes of Emiliano Martinez and Julian Alvarez stepped up for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, it was undoubtedly Lionel Messi who did most of the heavy lifting for the side in Qatar.

Messi found the back of the net seven times in as many games for La Albiceleste in the tournament. Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick in the final, though, saw him edge past the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in the race for the Golden Boot.

The PSG superstar also provided three assists for his teammates at the FIFA World Cup. His performances for Lionel Scaloni’s side saw him win the Golden Ball award at the end of the competition.

Nothing, though, gave Messi as much joy as lifting the World Cup trophy after leading Argentina to glory. After the match, he explained how he has now fulfilled a childhood dream of his.

Having won the one trophy that evaded him for most of his career, the forward can hang up his boots without regrets. However, he does not appear to have made a decision regarding his international future yet.
