PSG superstar prefers to stay despite interest from Premier League giants Manchester City: Reports

[ad_1]

Marco Verratti wants to stay at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) despite attracting transfer interest from Premier League giants Manchester City, according to French daily Le Parisien.

Verratti is the longest-serving player in the current Les Parisiens squad, having arrived from Italian club Pescara for €12 million in 2012. The midfielder has made 414 appearances across competitions for the Ligue 1 heavyweights, bagging 11 goals and 61 assists.

The Italy international has had a successful spell at the Parc des Princes, winning 29 trophies, including eight Ligue 1 titles. He could have another league winner’s medal if he helps PSG beat Strasbourg on Saturday (May 27) and clinch the title.

However, there are doubts about Verratti’s future with the Parisians ahead of the summer. The Italian’s performances this season, which have seen him provide just one assist in 36 games across competitions, have left much to be desired.

According to the aforementioned source, the runaway champions are prepared to sell the midfielder if they receive a suitable offer. It appears Verratti will not be short of options if he leaves Paris as several clubs have reportedly checked the possibility of signing him.

Manchester City are among the club to have enquired about Verratti, as per the said report. The Cityzens are said to be in the market for a new midfielder as Ilkay Gundogan could be on his way out this summer.

The German’s future with the Premier League champions is in doubt as his contract ends on June 30. Arsenal and Barcelona have been credited with an interest in snapping him up.

Hence, a swoop for Verratti would make sense for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, the former Pescara man prefers to stay at PSG if the report is to be believed, handing City a blow.

How did Marco Verratti fare in last game for PSG?

Marco Verratti’s last appearance for PSG came in their Ligue 1 clash against AJ Auxerre on Sunday (May 21). He played the full 90 minutes, helping Les Parisiens claim a 2-1 win. However, the midfielder was not involved in any of the goals.

Verratti completed 135 of the 140 passes he attempted, boasting an accuracy of 96%, the most by any player in the game. The Italian won seven duels, which was the best record across both teams. He also made three tackles, including one last-man challenge.

Furthermore, Verratti made one clearance and two interceptions. He won four freekicks after being fouled four times. He also had more touches (155) than any other player in the game.

Real Madrid snub move for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe as they believe Vinicius Jr is better

[ad_1]

Real Madrid have reportedly decided against reigniting a move for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker Kylian Mbappe due to Vinicius Junior’s sensational form.

Marca reports that Los Blancos are not willing to spend any money on the French forward having missed out on his free signature last summer. Madrid were heavily expected to seal the 24-year-old as a free agent, but he signed a new three-year deal with PSG last May.

There have been reports suggesting that Real Madrid are interested in pulling off a mega-money double swoop for Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. The English teenager looks set to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Los Blancos feel a move for Mbappe is less than crucial amid Vinicius’ superb form over the last two years. The Brazilian attacker has scored 23 goals and provided 21 assists in 51 games across competitions this season. He bagged 22 goals and 20 assists last season, including the winner in the UEFA Champions League final.

There’s reportedly a clause in Mbappe’s contract at PSG that allows him to leave for free in 2024. That may turn Real Madrid’s heads, as Karim Benzema’s new one-year extension will expire at that time.

Mbappe has been in red-hot form this season, scoring 38 goals and providing nine assists in 40 games across competitions. He has regularly expressed a desire to play for Los Merengues but doesn’t look set to arrive anytime soon.

Kylian Mbappe explained that it was easier to go to Real Madrid than extend his stay at PSG

Kylian Mbappe turned down the European champions.
Kylian Mbappe turned down the European champions.

Kylian Mbappe surprised many when he decided to pen a new three-year deal with PSG in May 2022. The Frenchman seemed to be heading to the Santiago Bernabeu but opted to remain at the Parc des Princes instead.

The Frenchman explained his reasons for extending his contract with the Parisians last November. He told Sports Illustrated that he wanted to achieve something special as a Frenchman in Paris:

“I always talk about my ambition, what I want to do, and now it’s time. In Paris, the book is fully white. What an opportunity! You have to think differently. Of course, it was easier to go to Madrid. But I have this ambition. I’m French. I’m a child of Paris, and to win in Paris, it’s something really special—really special.”

Kylian Mbappe has been PSG’s protagonist since arriving at the club from AS Monaco in 2017. He has scored 209 goals and provided 97 assists in 257 appearances, winning five Ligue 1 and three Coupe de France titles.

However, Mbappe is yet to get his hands on the UEFA Champions League or win the Ballon d’Or. These accomplishments are ones that many believe he has a better chance of achieving at Real Madrid. The La Liga giants have won the European title 14 times, and Benzema is the current holder of the Ballon d’Or award.

PSG superstar Neymar wanted by Manchester United and 2 other clubs this summer

[ad_1]

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly looking to sell Neymar in the summer, with Manchester United, Juventus and Newcastle United interested.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, PSG no longer have faith in the Brazilian attacker and want to ship him out in the summer. It’s believed that the 31-year-old must find a new club to extend his career. Amid reports of a summer departure, three clubs have emerged as Neymar’s potential suitors.

Premier League giants Manchester United are the first. The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on the Brazil ace for a while and are prepared to pay a sizable fee to sign him. The former Barcelona winger could be tempted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League and proving his mettle in a different country.

Serie A giants Juventus have also been credited with an interest in the attacking star. The Turin-based club are in the market for a marquee player who could bring back their glory days. They see the PSG No. 10 as a great candidate.

Premier League up-and-comers Newcastle United are the third team interested in signing the former Santos ace. The Magpies have done well under Eddie Howe this season, climbing to third place in the Premier League. If they secure UEFA Champions League football next season, they could attract some of the biggest names in the sport.

Newcastle are not as big of a name as Manchester United, but Neymar could be enticed by the prospect of becoming the centerpiece of the Saudi-backed club’s new project.

According to Transfermarkt, Neymar’s market value stands at €70 million and his contract with Les Parisiens expires in 2025. Since joining the Ligue 1 outfit for €222 million fee in 2017, Neymar has represented them in 173 games, scoring 118 times and claiming 77 assists.

Manchester United interested in PSG defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu

According to French outlet Le10Sport, PSG defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu is on Manchester United’s shortlist for the summer. The 17-year-old midfielder has impressed with his calmness and versatility this season but could struggle for minutes after Milan Skriniar arrives as a free agent this summer.

Manchester United, meanwhile, could use reinforcements at the back. With Raphael Varane enduring more than his fair share of injuries and Harry Maguire’s future in the air, Bitshiabu could prove to be an important addition to the roster.

Bitshiabu, who can operate as a left-back and centre-back, has played 13 games for Christophe Galtier’s side this season. According to Transfermarkt, he’s valued at €7 million.

Serie A club likely to demand mammoth €150m transfer fee to part ways with PSG summer target

[ad_1]

Serie A leaders Napoli could demand a massive €150 million to let Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) target Victor Osimhen leave in the summer.

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Le10Sport), Napoli do not need to lighten their wage bill this summer, making any potential transfer unnecessary. Furthermore, Napoli have plans to extend the sharpshooter’s contract. That means Napoli will only allow Osimhen to leave if an unimaginable offer comes along.

It has been claimed that an offer in the region of €150-160 million could persuade the Serie A giants to part ways with the Nigerian. As per Le10Sport, the Parisians want to build their project around Kylian Mbappe, meaning Lionel Messi and Neymar are likely to depart in the summer. If that’s the case, they’re likely to bring in a striker to play alongside Mbappe, and Osimhen has emerged as a priority.

PSG sporting director Luis Campos, who recruited Osimhen at Lille in 2019, is on the case. Campos reportedly maintains a good relationship with Napoli, which helped him bring in Fabian Ruiz last summer. However, sweet talk is unlikely to crack the Osimhen deal. The Partenopei are solely interested in money, meaning only the highest bidder would prevail.

Osimhen has been firing on all cylinders for Napoli this season, bagging 25 goals and five assists in 29 games this season across competitions. His deal with Napoli expires in June 2025.

PSG fans boo Lionel Messi ahead of Ligue 1 defeat to Lyon

Home fans booed seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi when his name was announced in the line-up to face Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Sunday (02 April). It was the second time the Argentina icon found himself at the receiving end of loud jeers in Paris. He was also booed in the 2-0 defeat to Rennes last month.

PSG fans’ frustration grew as their team failed to make things happen against Lyon, succumbing to a narrow 1-0 defeat. It marked their second consecutive Ligue 1 defeat at the Parc des Princes.

Parisians fans’ disdain towards Messi has been audible since he failed to produce anything of note in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich. Christophe Galtier’s side fell to a 3-0 aggregate defeat to endure their second straight Round of 16 exit.

Messi’s PSG contract expires in June, but he’s yet to agree an extension. Furthermore, he’s reportedly in talks with Barcelona over a possible return to the Camp Nou in the summer.

PSG attacker Lionel Messi ranks just behind Manchester City superstar in key playmaking stat

[ad_1]

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi is only behind Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne with respect to big chances created in league play this season.

According to WhoScored, De Bruyne has created 24 big chances in the Premier League this term in 25 appearances. Messi, meanwhile, has created 22 big chances in 22 Ligue 1 matches.

Both players lead their respective leagues’ assist charts. De Bruyne has laid out 12 assists, while Messi has assisted 13 times. The PSG attacker is averaging 2.7 key passes per game in the league, while the Manchester City man is ahead at 3.2 key passes per game.

Lionel Messi is, however, clear of Kevin De Bruyne by some distance in the goalscoring charts. La Pulga has scored 13 times in Ligue 1 this term, while the Belgian has only found the back of the net four times in the league.

It’s worth noting that Messi is the only non-Premier League player on the aforementioned list released by WhoScored. De Bruyne and the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner are followed by Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

PSG’s Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne endured contrasting nights in the UEFA Champions League this month

Lionel Messi’s PSG and Kevin De Bruyne’s Manchester City are viewed as two of the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League every season. The two players are undeniably key to their sides’ hopes of lifting the famous trophy for the first time ever.

While Messi couldn’t inspire PSG to a win in their Champions League Round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich, De Bruyne starred as City dismantled Leipzig.

La Pulga and the Parisians traveled to Germany for the second leg of the contest last week, needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit. He recorded three key passes, but got just one shot on target, completed only two of his six dribble attempts and lost the ball 19 times as his side fell to a 2-0 defeat.

It meant PSG exited the Champions League in the Round of 16 stage for the fifth time in seven years and the second successive time since signing Lionel Messi.

Manchester City, meanwhile, played the second leg of their Round of 16 tie on Tuesday (March 14), with the scores level at 1-1 after the first leg in Germany. Erling Haaland starred with five goals as City won 7-0, but De Bruyne ran the show from midfield.

Apart from his incredible strike in second-half stoppage time, the Belgian laid out four key passes, including two big chances created. He completed two of his four dribble attempts, hit the woodwork once (with Haaland scoring the rebound) and won four of his seven duels.

Will Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe be fit to play in the PSG vs Bayern Munich UCL clash?

[ad_1]

Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are back in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) training ahead of their Round of 16 match against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League. The duo were joined by Marco Verratti, who also missed the 3-1 defeat to AS Monaco on Saturday.

PSG fans have been sweating on the fitness of their star players ahead of the Champions League clash. But they have some positive news to calm their nerves.

Leo Messi se entrenó a la par y se perfila como titular por Champions League.

Galtier has hinted that Messi will be back for the match against Bayern Munich. The PSG manager added that Mbappe will need three weeks to recover from his thigh injury.

Messi, on the other hand, had muscle fatigue and rested over the weekend. Galtier expected him back in training on Monday, and the Argentine has reported as planned.

Speaking to the media last week, Galtier said:

“Regarding Kylian, the communication has been made. We spoke of a three-week unavailability. Kylian is undergoing treatment. Leo has felt muscle fatigue, he will resume training on Monday. He is not uncertain for Bayern.”

PSG might not risk Kylian Mbappe against Bayern Munich

The PSG manager was aware of of the importance of the match against the Bundesliga side but insisted that the player’s health was more important than the result.

🚨🚨 Kylian Mbappé a participé à L’INTÉGRALITÉ de la séance d’entraînement de ce lundi ! 🇫🇷(L’ÉQUIPE)

Mbappe might have to sit out the first leg despite participating in full training on Monday, as Galtier said:

“The player’s health comes first. I will be very vigilant about the player’s health, especially as the season is still long.”

Verratti missed the match against AS Monaco with a virus but is back. There has been no update on Achraf Hakimi, who also missed the Ligue 1 match last weekend.

PSG faced Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League final and were beaten 1-0. Kingsley Coman, who played for the French side before moving to Juventus and then settling at the German side, scored the match’s only goal.

“Ronaldo’s game today is normal”

[ad_1]

Al Nassr president Musli Al-Muammar has heaped praise on his new recruit Cristiano Ronaldo following his stunning display for Riyadh All-Star XI in the friendly against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Cristiano Ronaldo captained Riyadh All-Star XI, a team featuring players from Al Nassr and Al Hilal, in Thursday’s (19 January) Riyadh Seasons Cup friendly against PSG. Lionel Messi’s PSG came out on top in the hotly-contested affair, securing a 5-4 victory, but it was Ronaldo who emerged as the best player of the match.

The Portuguese superstar scored an excellent brace, smartly putting away a 34th-minute penalty to restore parity for Riyadh All-Star XI after Messi put PSG in front. Again, in first-half injury time, he exhibited his razor-sharp reflexes to tuck home the rebound after his initial header clattered against the left post. The brace deservedly won him the Man of the Match award in his first-ever game in Saudi Arabia.

After the match, Al-Muammar gave his verdict on Ronaldo’s display against the Parisians, insisting that it was normal for him to score a brace.

Musli Al-Muammar (President of Al-Nassr):

“Ronaldo’s game today is normal, he scored two goals today, this is normal.”

Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled as an Al Nassr player at the Mrsool Park on 3 January after he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Saudi Arabian club. It has been reported that he will earn a staggering $200 million per year during his time with the Riyadh-based club.

Ronaldo is expected to make his debut for Al Nassr on 22 January, against Saudi Pro League rivals Ettifaq.

Cristiano Ronaldo happy to see “old friends” in Riyadh friendly

Following a difficult 2022, in which he saw his Manchester United contract terminated and endured a quarter-final exit at the World Cup, Ronaldo has enjoyed a strong start to 2023. In his first-ever match in Saudi Arabia, he not only scored a brace but also looked like enjoying playing the sport.

After the game, Cristiano Ronaldo took to social media to express his joy, revealing that he was happy to be back on the scoresheet and catching up with old friends.

So happy to be back on the pitch, and on the score sheet!! And nice to see some old friends!👍🏼

“So happy to be back on the pitch, and on the score sheet!! And nice to see some old friends!👍🏼”

PSG superstars Keylor Navas and Sergio Ramos were his long-time teammates at Real Madrid, while he shared the pitch with Barcelona legend Messi a whopping 36 times before the game. Considering all the aforementioned players are well into their twilight, it was possibly the last time they all participated in a game of football together.

Saudi Arabian organisers have launched a special ticket for an upcoming game that could see long-time rivals, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, square off in the Middle East.

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will take on a star-studded team featuring players from Al Nassr and Al Hilal, in a friendly in Riyadh on January 19. Ronaldo, who was presented as an Al Nassr player earlier this month, could make his first appearance on Saudi soil in that game.

The Portuguese superstar, who is expected to earn $200 million per year during his two-and-a-half-year stay (till June 2025) in Saudi Arabia, is currently serving a carry-over suspension from the FA.

Watching Messi, Mbappe, Neymar and Ronaldo together on the pitch is a privilege in itself. However, the organisers of the charity game are going a step further to make it a memorable night for deep-pocketed fans.

Ronaldo’s Al Nassr coach Rudi Garcia unhappy with timing of friendly clash with Messi’s PSG

Al Nassr boss Rudi Garcia has questioned the timing of the upcoming friendly against PSG. Garcia admitted that the organisers should have been more thoughtful with the placement of the fixture, as Al Nassr have a Saudi Pro League game three days after the friendly.

“As the coach of Al Nassr, I cannot be happy with this match. For development, to see PSG, to see the great Parisian players, indeed it is a good thing. But we have a championship game three days later,” Garcia said (via ESPN]).

He continued:

“In terms of scheduling, it could have been better thought out. But it’s not a big deal … We are in the lead; we are happy. It is a difficult championship to win, but we intend to do it.”

Ronaldo, who is currently serving a domestic suspension for knocking a phone out of an Everton fan’s hand in April 2022, could play in the friendly, Garcia confirmed.

“It (his debut) won’t be with the Al Nassr jersey. It will be a mix between Al Hilal and Al Nassr.”

Messi’s arch-rival is set to miss the clash against Al Shabab on Saturday (January 14) but will be available for selection against Ettifaq eight days later.€

“Generated a little frustration for Ney”, “Taught the whole team with his selflessness”

[ad_1]

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Christophe Galtier has lauded Kylian Mbappe’s selflessness and admitted that Neymar deserved a yellow for simulation against Strasbourg.

Ligue 1 leaders PSG secured a narrow 2-1 win over 19th-placed Strasbourg in their meeting at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night (28 December). Marquinhos scored the opener with his head in the 14th minute before canceling it with an unfortunate own goal in the 51st minute. Neymar was dismissed in the 62nd minute after picking up his second booking, with him seeing his first yellow for a foul on Adrien Thomasson and the second for simulation.

Despite playing with 10 men, the Parisians still managed to nick a win, courtesy of Mbappe’s 96th-minute penalty. At the post-match press conference, coach Galtier was asked to comment on Neymar’s dive inside Strasbourg’s box. He admitted that the Brazilian deserved the yellow for simulation but claimed that the first yellow was too harsh.

“As much as I can understand the simulation, he deserves the yellow [card], a few minutes before he suffers a bad foul and his first yellow is very severe compared to the number of fouls suffered by Ney,” the PSG manager said (h/t Planet Sport).

“Strasbourg is a team that plays well, but also gives off a lot of strength and power. There was a lot of impact in this match. I regret that the excess of commitment was not sanctioned more harshly for certain players. It could have generated a little frustration for Ney.”

Galtier then lauded Mbappe for his selflessness, claiming that he had brought his stunning World Cup form to club football.

“I think he is on the level of what he did in Qatar. He’s benefited from a few days off. Despite the sadness, he had an exceptional tournament, and his recovery means he’s been on the pace,” Galtier said about the France international.

“Since his return, he was determined to play our next two matches. He was the trigger for victory when it was tough. He has taught the whole team with his selflessness.”

Mbappe won the 2022 FIFA Golden Boot after scoring eight times in seven games, with three of his strikes coming in the final against Argentina. Despite his heroics, France could not overcome Lionel Messi’s Argentina, ultimately losing 4-2 on penalties.

Neymar was PSG’s best player before being sent off for diving

Brazil international Neymar enjoyed himself before being dismissed against Strasbourg. He linked up flawlessly with Mbappe and Co., created multiple goalscoring opportunities, and carried the ball well into the dangerous areas of the pitch. Strasbourg had a hard time containing him and fouled him time and time again.

Before his dismissal in the 62nd minute, Neymar played three key passes, created two big chances, completed three dribbles, and drew a staggering six fouls. Had he not gone to ground rather needlessly, PSG probably would have managed to secure a more convincing win over the relegation-threatened Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Due to his indirect red card, Neymar will miss Sunday’s (1 January) Ligue 1 clash against second-place Lens.

“I will be eternally grateful for that talk”

Barbie, an Argentine mom, has shared how Lionel Messi helped her then-8-year-old son, Tommy, during a tough phase in his life.

Tommy was diagnosed with Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) when he was eight, the same condition Messi had in his childhood. Barbie helped Tommy by drawing parallels to Messi, hoping that it would give him strength.

Her story, which was originally shared on Instagram and has been translated by Twitter user @JimenaJuani, started:

“I bought a poster of Messi; we put it on his bedroom wall. We told him that he would do the same treatment as his idol. And for him to see that it was not an impediment for Lionel to fulfill his dreams. I knew that this would do my son good.”

Barbie got in touch with Messi’s father Jorge in 2010, and the then-Barcelona forward was happy to meet Tommy.

Messi, who had to take growth hormones for a prolonged period, discussed the GHD treatment at length, telling Tommy whether or not it hurt, and where the injections went. He also reassured young Tommy that everything would be fine.

“Messi told him that he sometimes used to be teased as “pulga”, that sometimes he wanted to be a giant. But being small had its advantages, (you could be) more skilful and quick,” Barbie added.

Messi, who was diagnosed with GHD when he was 11, further told Tommy:

“At your age, I was the same size as you.”

Tommy has grown up healthy and is now the same height as his idol Lionel Messi. His grateful mother, Barbie, concluded saying that she would be eternally grateful to the superstar for having that conversation with her son:

“For all this, I prayed that on Sunday Messi would win the World Cup. I will be eternally grateful for that talk with my son. Thank you Messi, you are giant. Barbie, Tommy’s mom,” her post concluded.

Roberto said in an interview (via Barca Universal):

“I read that Messi was renewing with PSG. I haven’t spoken to him, but I’m sure that he won’t like any other club as much as Barca. It’s his boyhood club.”

Lionel Messi, who left Barcelona as a free agent in 2021, sees his contract with PSG expire in 2023. If an extension is signed, he could stay with the club till the end of the 2023-24 season.
