Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the seventh film in the franchise, which is set to bring back Optimus Prime while also introducing the Beast Wars characters. Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is behind the camera for the new sequel along with a cast that includes Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Peter Dinklage, Ron Perlman, and Anthony Ramos.

While speaking at SXSW’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts panel (via ComicBook.com), di Bonaventura went into detail about the epic scale of the action in the new movie. The producer offered insight into the film’s production in Peru, hailing the location for providing something unique. However, he also mentions that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has more than beautiful locations, with it set to feature one of the franchise’s biggest action scenes to date. Check out di Bonaventura’s comments below:

“Humans are your access point, especially when you’re dealing with a bunch of robots. And so what’s so important is for the audience members to get themselves in the shoes of who is talking against the robot. So that experience when Anthony first sees the robot, it’s a big moment in the movie. So you have to be able to put your shoes there in their characters and their reactions. Thankfully, these robots as you guys can see up here have scale all into themselves. It’s actually something that’s really hard. Both the director and the DP have to work really hard at trying to figure out the relative scale of humans against robots. What we have found is you need to find these extraordinary places to take them because that’s part of the adventure experience… So we chose Machu Picchu. Because first of all, we’re the first film to have shot there, other than a very small little film that was done in Peru. So it’s not something that people have experienced and it has a grandeur. A lot of people talk about scale, as being large, I think about his grand and epic, and that’s where we really were pushing hard both in terms of visuals, but also like when you get to a battle. This is one of the biggest battles we’ve ever done. So we’re very conscious that the experience that the audience is expecting from us is that scale.”

What To Expect From Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ Action

The Transformers franchise is known for its large-scale action scenes, stagging massive battles in various major cities worldwide. With a series that sees giant robots fighting an ongoing war with each other alongside humans, it highlights an interesting dichotomy. Furthermore, the first five films in the franchise were directed by Michael Bay, who is known for his bombastic action scenes, having also directed Armageddon, The Rock, and the first two Bad Boys movies.

Bay serves as a producer on Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which means his influence can still be felt. Early trailers have shown new characters and the intense action the series is known for, with the world Bay set up continuing under Caple Jr. So while the movie may not feature the same fast and frenetic action that has come to be known as “Bayhem,” it is still set to deliver on the action.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts also introduces the Maximals, inlcuding Optimus Primal and Rhinox. The franchise previously introduced the Dinobots in Transformers: Age of Extinction but featured them as an animalistic counterpart to the Autobots. The new film sees the Maximals as intelligent equals, offering distinct new characters that will likely come with animal-inspired movements and fighting styles. Plot details on Transformers: Rise of the Beasts are still under wraps. However, with di Bonaventura’s tease and the early trailers, the franchise looks to continue offering a generous helping of action.
