Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed details about their new rebranded streaming service, Max. A revamped streaming service for the media company has been in talks for some time following Warner Bros. and Discovery merging last year. The streaming service name “Max” was previously reported in December 2022 as a merged service between HBO Max and Discovery+.
Now, Warner Bros. Discovery has introduced their new streaming rebrand to the world, titled Max.
The new streaming service will see content pulled from HBO Max’s catalog of films, shows, and originals, as well as food, reality, and lifestyle content from channels like Food Network, Discovery, and TLC. The rebranded streaming service is set to launch on May 23, with plenty of new features compared to the current HBO Max. JB Perrette, President & CEO, Global Streaming & Games for Warner Bros. Discovery said in a statement:
“From the biggest superheroes to real life champions; from culture-shaping dramas to taste-shaping entertainment; from fantastical realms to the realest of worlds, Max will offer an unrivaled range of choice. This new brand signals an important change from two narrower products, HBO Max and discovery+, to our broader content offering and consumer proposition. While each product offered something for some people, Max will have a broad array of quality choices for everybody.”

Max will be taking the place of HBO Max while pulling content from the Discovery side of the company into the streaming service. While Discovery+ will continue to exist as its own separate streaming service, content found on the platform will also be available on Max. The new service will have three payment tiers, which will be Max Ad-Lite for $9.99 per month, Max Ad Free for $15.99 per month, and Max Ultimate Ad Free for $19.99 per month. Current HBO Max subscribers will still be able to access their “Continue Watching” and “My List” items following the change.
Max will also feature smoother, premium video playback, as well as more options for personalization and simpler navigation tools. The new service will also have a kids profile for new subscribers, with new original children’s shows like Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge as facets of the rebrand. One notable change from HBO Max is that 4K Ultra HD will now only be available to customers with the Max Ultimate Ad Free subscription.
HBO Max’s rebrand to Max is a reflection of Warner Bros. Discovery’s new identity following the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger. With all the media company’s streaming content in one place, it appears Warner Bros. Discovery is setting the foundation for a major focus on streaming content. With prominent new series like a Harry Potter reboot and a Big Bang Theory spinoff prepared for Max, the rebranded service is already looking promising.
