Zachary Levi Says Marvel’s Kevin Feige Misled Him About Thor Movie Role

[ad_1]

Zachary Levi says Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige misled him about his Thor role as Fandral. Before landing his own DC franchise as Shazam, Levi was initially involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing one of the Asgardians Warriors Three. Levi only appeared twice in the MCU, first in Thor: The Dark World and then briefly in Thor: Ragnarok.

Levi was originally cast to play Fandral in Kenneth Branagh’s 2011 Thor movie, but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Josh Dallas eventually took over the role. Interestingly, however, when Dallas couldn’t come back for the second movie, Levi stepped back in to play the character. In a new Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, the actor claims that Feige promised him a more prominent role as Fandral in Thor: The Dark World — something that didn’t happen.

Read Levi’s full quote below:

Feige is like, ‘Hey, would Zach want to take this role again?’ And to be honest, look… and I insisted on talking to Kevin about it, for two reasons. One, I saw the first movie, and I didn’t really feel like the Warriors Three were utilized in that great of a way. And I was like, ‘Is that going to be the case again, because if it is, I don’t really want to do that, you know?’ And he’s like, ‘No, no, no, it’s gonna be a huge part of this movie.’ Not so much, as it turned out.

Can Zachary Levi’s Fandral Still Return In The MCU?

Fandral’s last MCU appearance was in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. As part of director Taika Waititi’s attempt to revitalize the franchise, he killed several key characters from the previous movies, including the Warriors Three. Levi’s final Fandral line in Thor: Ragnarok was cut, but the plan was to end his character in the threequel.

Despite being killed in the MCU, there are a couple of ways that Marvel Studios can bring back the character, especially in the burgeoning Multiverse Saga. That includes the introduction of his variant from another timeline if Thor and/or Loki find themselves traveling through multiple universes. Objectively, however, since there has never been any significant interest in Fandral and even the Warriors Three, the chances of this happening are slim to none.

After his brief stint in the MCU as part of two Thor movies, Levi has now moved over to the DC Universe with the Shazam! franchise. Unfortunately, due to the disappointment of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, even his future with the DC superhero universe is uncertain. Whether he gets another chance at the role is currently unknown, especially considering James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new extensive plan to revamp the DC Universe.
